A total of 70 cadets from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Rangers are on the island of Grand Bahama attending the 3rd Annual Rangers Leadership Summer Camp at St. George’s High School, Freeport.

The Leadership Camp is being conducted by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Rangers Department, with auxiliary personnel from other departments including the Medical Center, Public Relations, and Commando Squadron.

The intensive 3-week leadership program is designed to develop character and leadership skills among 70 high school students, who are currently enrolled in the Rangers programme.

The Leadership Camp got off to an exciting start with the Cadets having the rare and distinct privilege of travelling overnight to Grand Bahama Island via the RBDF Auxiliary Vessel, HMBS Lawrence Major. During the voyage, the Rangers toured various parts of ship, as they learned from veteran sailors on board.

During their stay aboard the 200-foot vessel, the Rangers visited the Bridge where they saw the ship's navigation equipment and watched the bridge team navigate the ship. The Rangers also toured the ship's engine room.

Apart from the challenges of seasickness for some and weathering a long voyage, the brave Rangers experienced, first hand, life aboard a naval ship and witnessed Defence Force Officers and Marines in action. They also enjoyed the wonders of life at sea--a glorious sunset and sunrise and the beauty of the vast ocean, with its endless palette of blues.

This year's leadership camp curriculum will cover several units. These units include: Rangers Officer Training Course; Rangers Enlisted Cadets Course; Advanced Officer Training, Photo Journalism Course; and a Dive Course.

The young campers represent the 7 islands on which the Rangers Programme is being conducted.
