Nassau RBPF Report: 2 arrested for drug possession - 3 illegal firearms seized - 2 other arrests / 45 citations

TWO MEN ARRESTED FOR DRUG POSSESSION

Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2017, police took two adult males into custody for drug possession in two separate incidents on Monday 3rd April 2017.

In the first incident, shortly after 10:00pm, Mobile Division officers were on routine patrol on Kemp Road Near Wulff Road, when they saw a man acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion. The officers conducted a search of the man and found a quantity of marijuana in his possession. The man was subsequently taken into custody.

A short while later after 11:30pm, Mobile Division officers were on routine patrol on Farrington Road, when they saw a man acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion. The officers conducted a search of the man and found a quantity of marijuana in his possession. The man was subsequently taken into custody.

2 ARRESTED DURING SOUTHEASTERN DIVISION OPERATION

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2017, officers from the Southeastern Division conducted an operation in the division on Monday 3rd April 2017 to send a clear message to those responsible for committing criminal acts on members of our communities, that the police will proactively identify them, thoroughly investigate the offences they commit, and ensure that they are prosecuted and brought to justice.

The operation resulted in 2 persons being arrested for possession of dangerous drugs and 45 drivers cited for various traffic violations.


POLICE SEIZED THREE MORE ILLEGAL FIREARMS

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2017, police seized three more illegal firearms off the streets of New Providence over the past 48 hour period.

In the first incident, shortly after 10:00am on Sunday 2nd April 2017, Selective Enforcement Unit officers were on an operation on Old Cedar Way, Yellow Elder Gardens, when they saw a man acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion. When the officers approached the man, he fled on foot. The area was searched and a black and silver pistol along with a quantity of marijuana was found. No one was arrested in connection with the find.

In the second incident, around 2:00pm on Monday 3rd April 2017, Selective Enforcement Team officers was on an operation on Robinson Road when they searched an abandoned building and found an Austria pistol. No one was arrested in connection to the seizure.

A few hours later, shortly before 7:00pm, Selective Enforcement Team officers was on another operation on Market Street when they searched a premises and found a 9 - millimeter pistol. No one was arrested in connection to the seizure.
