Nassau police crack armed robbery ring - 19 arrests in operation - 5 other arrests

POLICE CRACK ARMED ROBBERY RING

Nassau, Bahamas - Excellent 'textbook' Police Work has resulted in the arrest of five men who are allegedly the masterminds behind an armed robbery ring that resulted in a number of persons being robbed of their vehicles over the past several days.

Arrested were: a 25 – year old man of Fire Trail Road, a 24 – year old man of Jubilee Gardens, a 22 – year old male of Jubilee Gardens, an 18 – year old male of Tall Pines Estates and a 17 – year old male of Elizabeth Gardens.

According to reports around 9:00am on Sunday 9th November 2014, Southwestern Division Officers acting on intelligence went to an area off Gladstone Road where they recovered a 2000 Honda Accord and a Kia Sportage Jeep stolen during two recent armed robberies. The suspects who were found hiding in an abandoned house were subsequently arrested and taken into custody. Additionally, police recovered a number of stolen vehicle parts found in the possession of the suspects.

One of the recent armed robberies occurred on Friday 7th November 2014, where a man was at Gladstone Road, when a man armed with a handgun robbed him of a 2010 Kia Sportage vehicle license number 221174 and sped off.

Police have recovered the vehicle stolen during this incident. Investigations are ongoing.

19 ARRESTED DURING POLICE ISLAND-WIDE OPERATION

Consistent with the Commissioner’s 2014 Policing Priorities a large contingent of police officers under the command of Superintendent Maxine Leary carried out an overnight island-wide operation in New Providence.

The operation was aimed at disrupting crime groups and targeting persons involved in criminal activities, such and Drugs and Firearms, Persons wanted for various criminal offences, Prolific Offenders, Persons wanted for Outstanding Court Warrants and motorists operating in Breach of the Traffic Laws.

During the operation, 19 persons were arrested on suspicion of committing various serious offences. Additionally, a stolen vehicle was recovered along with a quantity of dangerous drugs.

5 ARRESTED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS DURING 24 HOURS PERIOD

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrest of five (5) persons during the past 24 hours for various minor and major offences.
