Nassau: 36 arrested as police island-wide Assault Crime continues - 44 drivers cited

36 ARRESTED AS POLICE ISLAND-WIDE ASSAULT ON CRIME CONTINUES

Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2015, police intensified their island-wide anti-crime operation on Wednesday 9th September 2015 with large contingents of police officers fan out across New Providence.

The police anti-crime operation is aimed at suppressing crime in a number of areas and to send a clear message to those responsible for committing criminal acts on members of our communities, that the police will proactively identify them, thoroughly investigate the offences they commit, and ensure that they are prosecuted and brought to justice.

The operation resulted in 36 persons being arrested for a number of serious offences such as murder, armed robbery, housebreaking and stolen vehicle. Additionally, police recovered a stolen vehicle.

POLICE CREDITS THE SUCCESS OF THEIR ONGOING MAJOR ASSAULT ON CRIME TO EXCELLENT TEAM-WORK, INTELLIGENCE LED POLICING, PRECISE EXECUTION OF ITS 2015 POLICING PLAN AND SUPPORT FROM MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC

44 DRIVERS CITED DURING POLICE TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT OPERATION

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2015 a team of officers from the Police Traffic Department conducted an operation throughout New Providence, on Wednesday 9th September 2015 that targeted Traffic Violators.

The operation resulted in 44 Drivers being cited for various Traffic Violations.

Police are reminding members the public to adhere to the rules governing the usage of our roadways. Police also warned that officers of the Traffic Division and by extension the Royal Bahamas Police Force are taking a zero tolerance approach in enforcing the rules of the road.

POLICE ARE APPEALING TO ANYONE WITH INFORMATION REGARDING THE WHEREABOUTS OF THE OTHER THREE SUSPECTS, NO MATTER HOW SMALL OR INSIGNIFICANT (THE TIP) MAY SEEM, TO ANONYMOUSLY CALL POLICE AT 919 OR CRIME STOPPERS AT 328-TIPS (8477) (NEW PROVIDENCE) OR 1-242-300-8476 (FAMILY ISLANDS)

WEEKLY PREVENTION CRIME TIP – BUSINESS OWNERS

• Keep doors and windows clear of signs and posters to allow good two-way visibility.
• Use video surveillance and make it well known.
• Make bank deposits at least once a day.
• Place a surveillance camera behind the cash register facing the front counter.
• Install an emergency (panic) alarm.
• Make your sales counter clearly visible to observers.
• A clean environment is good for business and uncomfortable for robbers.
• Keep your business well-lit inside and outside
