RBPF Nassau: 1 Bahamian, 1 Colombian, 4 Venezuelans arrested for suspected trafficking in persons

Nassau, Bahamas - Police anti-crime operation which focus on disrupting crime groups and targeting persons involved in criminal activities took a new twist last night with the arrest of a Bahamian man and five foreigners at a small resort in western New Providence.

Shortly before 7:00pm the police operation team acting on intelligence descended on a resort located at West Bay Street, where they met an adult Bahamian male with 3 women and a male from Venezuela along with a woman from Colombia, whom they suspected to be in the Bahamas for the purpose of solicitation for prostitution. The women were taken into custody for breach of the Immigration Act and questioning reference to Trafficking in Persons.

During last night’s operation, police also arrested 7 other persons for other offenses to include, possession of dangerous drugs, firearms, threats of death and outstanding court warrants.

The operation hich is consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, was under the command of Chief Superintendents Clayton Fernander and Theophilus Cunningham.
