RBPF Nassau: Another illegal handgun seized - 156 drivers cited - 13 arrested, 73 drivers ticketed

ANOTHER ILLEGAL HANDGUN SEIZED

Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2017, officers from the Southern Division seized another handgun off the streets of New Providence on Thursday 21st September 2017.

Reports are that shortly after 2:00pm, Southern Division officers were on routine patrol on Milton Street, when they saw a man walking in the area who aroused their suspicion. The man on seeing the officers threw a handgun to the ground and fled on foot. The officers gave chase but were unable to catch the man. The handgun was retrieved and found to be a Keltic Automatic Pistol.

Investigations are ongoing.

156 DRIVERS CITED DURING SPECIAL TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT OPERATION

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2017, officers from the Police Traffic Department conducted two targeted enforcement operations to enhance public safety in the Munnings Drive area during the past 48 hours.

During the operations, 156 drivers were ticketed for speeding and other traffic related violations.

Police are warning the motoring public that from a public safety perspective, Police Traffic Department officers will be adopting a “zero tolerance” stance with those drivers found to be violating the rules of the road.

13 ARRESTED, 73 DRIVERS TICKETED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS DURING 48 HOURS PERIOD

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2017, Mobile Division targeted patrols intended to reduce crime, and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities, has resulted in the arrest of twelve (12) persons during the past 48 hours for, murder, possession of dangerous drugs, causing damage causing harm and outstanding court warrants.

Additionally, 73 drivers were ticketed for various traffic violations.
