RBPF Nassau: Illegal firearm and ammunition recovered - Police involved shooting

ILLEGAL FIREARM AND AMMUNITION RECOVERED- 4 MEN IN CUSTODY

Nassau, Bahamas - Proactive Policing initiatives from Officers of the Flying Squad Unit, resulted in four adult males being taken into custody and the seizure of an illegal firearm and ammunition, Wednesday, 19th December, 2018.

Shortly after 2:00pm, Flying Squad Officers were on patrol on Charles Saunders Highway, when they observed four men standing near an abandon building. The men upon seeing the officers, began acting in a suspicious manner. Officers conducted a search of the men and the building and recovered a .40 pistol and fifteen (15) rounds of .223 ammunition and a tam mask.

The men were taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing.

POLICE INVOLVED SHOOTING

Shortly after 10:00pm, Wednesday, 19th December, 2018, Police Officers responded to Quintine Alley off Wulff Road after receiving reports of a male armed with a firearm, firing shots in the area. As the officers were checking the area they observed the armed suspect on a roof. He pointed a firearm at the officers and discharged several shot before escaping from the roof and ran towards Woods Alley. A second team of officers were on woods alley when they observed a male emerge from nearby bushes, running towards them. The male was ordered to stop, instead he reached for an object from his trousers. Officers being in fear for their lives, withdrew their service weapons and fired at the man, injuring him. He was transported to hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.


Officers recovered from the scene, a plastic bag which contained a quantity of dangerous drugs.

Her Majesty’s Coroner will continue investigations into this matter.

116 DRIVERS TICKETED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS IN
PAST 48 HOUR 

Officers from the Mobile Divisions conducted road checks in various parts of the island. Their efforts, which were intended to educate, reduce crime, and to minimize the ability of criminals to commit criminal activity, resulted in the arrest of twenty-eight (28) persons for outstanding criminal warrants and murder over the past 48 hours.

Additionally, 116 drivers were ticketed for various traffic violations

ARMED ROBBERY SAFETY TIPS –
  • PERSONNEL SAFETY FIRST! MONEY AND MERCHANDISE ARE NOT IMPORTANT AND CAN BE REPLACED
  • Stay calm and don’t resist.Do as instructed and don’t make sudden moves.
  • Keep your hands visible at all times.
  • Get a look at the robber if possible, but don’t stare.
  • Activate the alarm only when it’s safe to do so.
  • If possible, get a look at the robber’s vehicle and the direction travel.
  • Do not follow the robber.
