POLICE ISLANDWIDE ANTI-CRIME OPERATION LEADS TO 12 ARRESTS
Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent
with the Commissioner’s 2014 Policing Priorities a large contingent of
police officers under the command of Assistant Commissioner Anthony
Ferguson carried out an island-wide anti-crime operation in New
Providence, on Wednesday 15th October 2014
The operation was
aimed at disrupting crime groups and targeting persons involved in
criminal activities, such and Drugs and Firearms, Persons wanted for
various criminal offences, Prolific Offenders, Persons wanted for
Outstanding Court Warrants and motorists operating in Breach of the
Traffic Laws.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 12 persons for a number of serious crimes, including dangerous
drugs and armed robbery.
In addition to the arrests, police also seized a quantity of dangerous drugs.
TWO MEN ARRESTED BY FLYING SQUAD OFFICERS FOR RAPE AND ATTEMPTED MURDER
In
the first incident, shortly before 11:00pm on Tuesday 14th October
2014, Flying Squad officers acting on intelligence arrested a 30 - year
old man of Peardale at Nassau Street for Attempted Murder.
In the
second incident, around 12:00noon on Tuesday 14th October 2014, Flying
Squad officers acting on intelligence arrested a 25 - year old man of
Odle Corner for Rape.
JAMAICAN MAN ARRESTED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS FOR ILLEGAL SHOTGUN
A
37 year old undocumented Jamaican man of Rocky Pine Road is in
custody after he was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm on
Thursday 16th October 2014.
According to reports, shortly after
1:00am, Mobile Division Officers acting on intelligence conducted a
search of a Honda vehicle occupied by the suspect on Marlborough Street.
During a search of the vehicle, the officers uncovered an unlicensed
shotgun along with a quantity of ammunition. Police also discovered that
the suspect possessed no legal documents to be in the Bahamas. The
suspect was taken into custody and is expected to appear in court
sometime tomorrow to face firearm and immigration related charges.
Investigations are ongoing.
10 ARRESTED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS
Consistent
with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, Mobile Division
saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability
for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrest of
ten (10) persons over the past 24 hours for various minor and major
offences. Additionally, 31 drivers were reported for various traffic
violations.
