Large drug seizure on Mailboat, 1 suspect in custody - 25 arrested as anti-crime operation heats up - 4 arrests, 28 citations

LARGE DRUGS SEIZURE ON MAILBOAT, ONE SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

Nassau, Bahamas - An adult male from Exuma is in custody after police seized a large quantity of dangerous drugs onboard a mailboat on Thursday 21st January 2016.

Reports are that around 11:00am, a team of officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit, acting on information conducted a search of a mailboat moored at the Potters Cay Dock that had just arrived from Exuma. During the search of the vessel the officers found three boxes containing 57 pounds of marijuana.

An adult male of Stuart’s Manor, Exuma was later taken into custody in connection with this find.

25 SUSPECTS ARRESTED AS POLICE ANTI-CRIME OPERATION HEATS UP

POLICE are reporting the arrest of 25 persons for various criminal offences to include, armed robbery, firearms and possession of dangerous drugs, as their anti-crime operation led by the Selective Enforcement Unit continued on Thursday 21st January 2016.

Additionally, a quantity of drugs was seized and a vehicle taken during a recent armed robbery was recovered.

The operation which is consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities, targeted persons involved in criminal activities, such as armed robbery, drugs, firearms and persons wanted for a number of serious criminal offences.

POLICE CREDITS THE SUCCESS OF THIS ONGOING MAJOR ASSAULT ON CRIME TO EXCELLENT TEAM-WORK, INTELLIGENCE LED POLICING, PRECISE EXECUTION OF ITS POLICING PLAN AND SUPPORT FROM MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC.

4 ARRESTED, 28 DRIVERS CITED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS DURING 24 HOURS PERIOD

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrest of four (4) persons during the past 24 hours for various minor and major offences. Additionally, 28 drivers were cited for various traffic violations.
