RBPF Nassau: Multiple shootings overnight, firearms recovered, 2 suspects in custody

SUSPECT SHOT DURING AN ARMED ROBBERY, FIREARM RECOVERED 

Nassau, Bahamas - A 29  year old male suspect is detained in hospital under heavy guard after he was shot during an attempted armed robbery of a police officer and another man on Wednesday 16th April 2014.  

According to reports, around 12:30am, an off duty Police Officer along with another man had just arrived at a residence located at Hampshire Street, Westward Villas, when a man armed with a handgun approached them and demanded cash. The male the fired a shot at them and the officer produced his Police issued firearm and fired several shots at the assailant. The assailant then fled on foot and got into an awaiting vehicle that sped off.

 A short while later the suspect showed up at PMH suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest and ride side of his body. The suspect is detained in hospital under heavy police guard.  

Police also arrested another man who is alleged to have taken the suspect to hospital from the scene.

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY FOR SHOOTING INCIDENT 

A 30 – year old man is in custody after he was arrested for a shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday 16th April 2014.  

According to reports, shortly after 12:30am, a group of men were at a party located in the Hollywood Subdivision area off Cowpen Road, when and altercation occurred. Two of the men then produced a handgun and fired into the crowd hitting two males in the leg before speeding off in a white Escalade vehicle.  

The victims were taken to hospital where they are detained in stable condition.  A short while later Police arrested the suspect at his residence in Pinewood Gardens in connect with this incident.  

POLICE SEIZE 3 FIREARMS, ONE SUSPECT IN CUSTODY  

In the first incident, shortly after 3:00pm on Tuesday 15th April 2014, Mobile Division officers acting on intelligence went to an abandoned building on Eaton Street, Yellow Elder Garden, where they recovered a handgun.  

In the first second, around 10:00pm on Tuesday 15th April 2014, Flying Squad Officers acting on intelligence conducted a search of a 17 – year old male at Palmetto Avenue and found a handgun in his possession. The suspect was taken into custody and is expected appear in court later this week to be formally charged.

In the third incident, 2:00am on Wednesday 16th April 2014, Mobile Division officers acting on intelligence, went to bushes in the Pinewood Gardens area, where they recovered a handgun.  

Police are appealing to anyone who may have any information regarding these two armed robberies, no matter how small or insignificant (the tip) may seem, to anonymously call Police at 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477) (New Providence) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands)
