Nasasu police investigate homicide - Homicide victims identified - Illegal firearms and ammunition recovered

POLICE INVESTIGATES HOMICIDE

Nassau, Bahamas - Police on the island of New Providence are aggressively investigating a shooting incident which left an adult male dead.

According to reports, shortly after 12:00noon, Tuesday, 8th October, 2019 a man was at Spence Court off Wilson Track, when the occupants of a grey vehicle pulled up and opened fire in his direction, fatally wounding him, before speeding away. 

Police are appealing to members of the public, who may have information that can assist with this investigation, to contact the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991/2, Crime stoppers at 328-TIPS (8477) or the nearest police station. 

Investigations are ongoing.

HOMICIDE VICTIMS IDENTIFIED

Police have officially identified the female who were killed on Thursday, 3rd October, 2019 at Vispen Road off Emmanuel Way as Terez Louise Burrows age 22 years of Vispen Road.

The male who was killed on Sunday 6th October, 2019 at East Street and Windsor Lane had been identified as Valentino Kelly age 37 years of Cordeaux Avenue. 
Police are appealing to members of the public, who may have information that can assist with this investigation, to contact the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991/2, Crime stoppers at 328-TIPS (8477) or the nearest police station.

ILLEGAL FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION RECOVERED

Police have recovered two illegal firearms from the streets of New Providence in separate incidents, Monday 7th October, 2019 and have taken an adult male into custody. 

In the first incident, according to reports, shortly after 4:00pm, Special Operations Officers were on patrol on Strachan’s Alley, Kemp Road, when they observed a male exit a vehicle acting in a suspicious manner. The male looked in the direction of the officers and ran into a house. Officers gave chase and observed him remove a firearm from his trousers and threw it on a table. Officers retrieved the firearm; a .40 pistol and saw that it contained thirteen (13) round of ammunition. The man was taken into custody and is expected to be formally charged before a Magistrate Court later this week.

In the second incident, shortly after 10:00pm, South Central Division Officers were on patrol on Key West Street, when they observed a male walking on the side of the street. The male looked in the direction of the officers, threw an object to the ground and ran from the area, making good his escape. The officers searched the area and recovered a .40 pistol which contained ten (10) rounds of ammunition.

Investigations are ongoing.

53 FIXED PENALTY NOTICES ISSUED TO DRIVERS BY
WESTERN DIVISION OFFICERS IN PAST 8 HOUR

Officers from the Western Division conducted road checks on Baha Mar Boulevard and on West Bay Street. Their efforts, which were intended to educate, reduce crime, and to minimize the ability of criminals to commit criminal activity, resulted in the arrest of two (2) persons for possession of dangerous drugs, over the past hours.

  • Look for ways to settle arguments and disagreements without violence. Remember: if you resort to violence to settle disputes, a child may well follow your example. Be a good role model.
  • Use good manners to help ease tensions that can lead to violence. Teach kids that showing respect for themselves and for the needs of others can prevent crime.
