POLICE INVESTIGATES TRAFFIC FATALITY

Nassau, Bahamas - Police on the island of New Providence are investigating a traffic collision Monday, 11th November, 2019 which left an adult male dead.

According to reports, shortly after 11:00pm, three males were traveling in a black Chevrolet Cruz, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a house at the junction of Robinson Road and Podoleo Street. Fire Service Officers were called to the scene and extricated the males from the vehicle. Two of the males were transported to hospital with serious injuries, while a third, the rear seat passenger, succumbed to his injuries on scene.

Officers from the RBPF Traffic Department will continue investigations into this incident

POLICE INVESTIGATES ARMED ROBBERY – 1 MALE TAKEN
INTO CUSTODY

Police on New Providence have taken one man into custody and have recovered an illegal firearm, as they actively investigate an armed robbery, which occurred Monday, 11th November, 2019.

According to reports, shortly after 7:00pm three armed men, entered a fast food take-away on Brougham Street, held employees at bay and robbed them and the establishment of cash and cellphones before running away. Central Detective Unit Officers were on patrol in the area and responded to this incident. Officers observe one of the suspects running on Dunmore Street and saw when he pulled a firearm from his trousers and threw it to the ground along with a pink purse and a cell phone. Officers caught the 19 year old male and took him into custody, and recovered a .45 pistol which contained six (6) rounds of ammunition, a cell phone and a purse containing cash.

Investigation are ongoing.

POLICE INVESTIGATES SEXUAL ASSAULT – 1 ADULT MALE IN
CUSTODY

Police on New Providence have taken one man into custody and is searching for a second male as they investigate the circumstance surrounding with a sexual assault incident, which occurred Monday, 11th November, 2019.

According to reports, shortly after 1:00am, a female was at the water front, when she was beaten and sexually assaulted by two men, who threw her into the water, then left the area. The woman was rescued by a passing vessel shortly after 6:00am and transported to hospital she was treated and later discharged. A 41 year old man is in custody and is assisting police with this investigation.

Investigations are ongoing.

ILLEGAL FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION RECOVERED - ADULT
MALES AND FEMALE IN CUSTODY

Police have recovered an illegal firearm and ammunition and have taken an adult male and female into custody, Monday, 11th November, 2019.

According to reports, shortly after 1:00pm, Drug Enforcement Unit Officers, executed a search warrant on a home off St. Vincent Road and recovered a black.45 pistol which contained six (6) rounds of ammunition.

A male and female resident of the home were taken into custody and are expected to be formally charged before a Magistrate Court later this week.

18 ARRESTED IN POLICE “SILENT NIGHT” OPERATION

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2019, police assisted by Marines from the Royal Bahamas Defense Force conducted operations in various parts of New Providence, Monday, 11th November, 2019, which led to the arrest of a number of persons.

The operation which is consistent with the Commissioner’s 2019, Prevention and Reduction of Crime, targeted persons involved in criminal activities, prolific offenders, persons wanted for outstanding court warrants.

The efforts of yesterday’s Operation Team and Mobile Division Officers led to the arrest of 18 persons for a number of criminal offenses including:

2 immigration purposes
1 house breaking
Ten (15) arrests for outstanding Court Warrants

Additionally, one hundred and twenty-five (125) fixed penalty notices were issued to drivers.

This operation is being led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Samuel Butler.
