Nassau 'wanted man' arrested with loaded handgun - 8 arrested for drug possession

Nassau, Bahamas - POLICE in the Southwestern Division are reporting a significant arrest of a wanted man after he was found in possession of a loaded handgun and ammunition earlier today, during a major operation under the leadership of Superintendent Matthew Edgecombe.

The operation which is consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, is part of the force’s strategy to cut down on criminal activity by targeting problem locations and persons engaged in criminal activities such as, murder, armed robbery, rape, shootings, stolen vehicle, firearms and drugs.

Shortly before 2:00pm, Southwestern Division officers acting on intelligence went to Andros Avenue, where they arrested a 24 – year old man after they found a tech 9 handgun along with 33 live rounds of ammunition in his possession.

SOUTHWESTERN DIVISION OFFICERS ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THE SUSPECT IS WANTED REFERENCE TO ATTEMPTED MURDER AND A NUMBER OF OUTSTANDING CRIMINAL WARRANTS.

Additionally, 8 other persons were arrested for a number of offences to include, housebreaking, stealing and outstanding court warrants.

8 ARRESTED FOR DRUG POSSESSION DURING EASTERN DIVISION OPERATION

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, Eastern Division officers conducted an operation in that division today that resulted in eight (8) persons being arrested for possession of dangerous drugs in two separate incidents.

In the first incident, shortly after 11:00am, the Eastern Division operation team conducted a search of two suspicious adult males near Sandilands Village Road and found a quantity of marijuana in their possession.

In the second incident, around 2:30pm, the Eastern Division operation team conducted a search of six (6) suspicious adult males at Dorsette Street and found a quantity of marijuana in their possession.

The operation was under the command of Superintendent Elaine Sands.

POLICE ISLAND-WIDE ANTI-CRIME OPERATION YEILDING MORE SUCCESS

POLICE are reporting more success under their Island-wide anti-crime operation – aimed at arresting persons involved in criminal activities and crime prevention.

During tonight’s operation police arrested 9 persons for a number of criminal offences to include, possession of dangerous drugs, firearms and armed robbery.

The operation, which is consistent with the Commissioner’s 2015 Policing Priorities, was under the command of Chief Superintendents Theophilus Cunningham.

POLICE CREDITS THE SUCCESS OF THEIR ONGOING MAJOR ASSAULT ON CRIME TO EXCELLENT TEAM-WORK, INTELLIGENCE LED POLICING, PRECISE EXECUTION OF ITS 2015 POLICING PLAN AND SUPPORT FROM MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC.

WEEKLY PREVENTION CRIME TIP – BUSINESS OWNERS

• Keep doors and windows clear of signs and posters to allow good two-way visibility.
• Use video surveillance and make it well known.
• Make bank deposits at least once a day.
• Place a surveillance camera behind the cash register facing the front counter.
• Install an emergency (panic) alarm.
• Make your sales counter clearly visible to observers.
• A clean environment is good for business and uncomfortable for robbers.
• Keep your business well-lit inside and outside
