Beijing, China - The Government of The Bahamas diplomatic
agenda in China is guided by the need to maintain one of the country's
most important bilateral economic relationship. Be that as it may, the
lack of an ambassadorial appointment from The Bahamas to China is
extremely disingenuous and counterproductive to the codependent nature
of the Bahamas-China relationship.
Unquestionably the Prime Minister recent State Visit to the
People's Republic of China has stimulated some constructive attention to
a very important diplomatic relationship. Bahamaren supports the
Government of The Bahamas as they seek to transform our country through a
strategic global reach. However, the lengthy process for an
ambassadorial appointment to China has remained frozen and is simply
inexcusable at the contemporary period of these two countries'
friendship.
A strong, consistent diplomatic engagement with China is
essential to our ability to leverage a long-term and substantive
partnership. The continued absence over the period of the last three
years of a high-level official in Beijing who can strategically
articulate the mutually shared benefits between The Bahamas and China is
ineffective to the government's agenda to align The Bahamas for China's
continued growth. I urge the government to prioritize the Bahamas-China
relationship which offers the best opportunity for strengthening the
Bahamas and its place in the Caribbean.
Increase outbound investments in The Bahamas from China have
given both countries a golden opportunity to define a promising
relationship. The government of The Bahamas must have a well-advised
proposition to seek after broader political, economic, and diplomatic
relations to achieve opportunities on the global stage with a long-term
vision. The government of The Bahamas has demonstrated the fortitude in
refashioning The Bahamas Relations with China. We encourage the
government to act swiftly in their appointment of an Ambassador to China
From the Bahamas.
I would be remiss not to mention during the absence
of an Ambassador, the Embassy of The Bahamas under the principal of Ms.
Sheila Carey Chargé d'Affaires, along with her team operated at the
highest levels of diplomatic performance. Bahamaren will continue to
support the government's efforts in their long-term interests of opening
the Bahamian economy to international trade and investment.
Latrae Rahming
Chief Executive Officer,
Bahamaren
