No Parking Zone -
Jun 21, 2008 - 11:28:17 PM
Trying to find a parking space at Port Lucaya has always had its challenges, but lately it seems virtually impossible, begging the question whether or not merchants, owners and/or developers actually want to make money.
This lack of parking at Port Lucaya makes me wonder if residents are even welcomed to patronize the various businesses. For as much as people are talking about the slow economy, one would think that more would be done to make Port Lucaya more assessable...

Crabbing For Parents -
Jun 17, 2008 - 9:49:30 PM
Our general lack of interest towards men is most evident when it comes to how we feel about our fathers or perhaps men in general. Looking at the sides of the streets leading up to Father’s Day, one would not have seen very many, if any, booths set up selling a variety of trinkets for “good ole dad.” There weren’t any cars on the side of the road either with people selling wares out of the trunks.

Obama Bahama Fever -
Jun 7, 2008 - 10:10:47 PM
For the first time ever in the 232 year history of the United States of America, a black man has been nominated to run as leader of its country. And, I suppose because of the proximity of The Bahamas to the USA, we have always kept a keen eye on the politics of that nation.

The Average Person is a "D" -
May 25, 2008 - 9:38:57 PM
After the Ministry of Education revealed their findings from a study they conducted, it was concluded that the average grade obtain by students leaving high school in The Bahamas, averaged a D grade. This news once again sparked another great debate among educators, potential employers and parents.
A common denominator in all the opinions expressed in the local dailies was that the level of education in the country is too low and perhaps the expectations in terms of student achievement are set too low.
Potential employers were very much concerned about the abilities of school leavers and whether or not they could be trained to fit into the workforce...

Can You Feel Me Now? -
May 16, 2008 - 11:08:56 PM
The truth is that the expediency in which news can travel has taken away the element of surprise and any possible shock. The age of communication in which we now live disseminates so much material so quickly, that we don’t have time to be shocked. The minute we begin to form an objection, something more atrocious pops up on the screen and we only shake our heads.
We may gossip about an incident for a few days, but then it becomes old news and we move on to something juicier. So when people say that we have become desensitized, does this mean that we are without feeling? Does this mean we have become like robots, walking and talking on command?
