The Impossibilities Are Endless...

A talented neurosurgeon suffers a career ending injury after a car accident and ends up seeking out a mystic on the other side of the world in a desperate attempt to regain what he had lost. In the process of finding the cure for his broken body, he must learn to put aside his ego and decide whether to return to his mundane life or continue to hone his new metaphysical skills to protect the world from any threat that lies beyond it in one of the many alternate dimensions.

Stephen Strange is a gifted neurosurgeon who loses the dexterity in his hands after a car accident and in an attempt to return to his former glory goes on a journey to a hidden temple in a distant land to heal. Karl Mordo is one of the Masters of the Mystic Arts who was mentored by the Ancient One and begins to teach Stephen the fundamentals of wielding the untapped power within him. The Ancient One is the current Sorceress Supreme of our dimension who has taken it upon herself to safe guard our realm by training those with the potential to become a Master of the Mystic Arts. Kaecilius is a former Master of the Mystic Arts who has turned his back on the teachings of the Ancient One and stolen information with the help of his zealots to allow the entropy entity Dormammu to enter our reality.

Doctor Strange proves once again just how out-of-this-world a film based on a comic book can be when done with a love for the source material. The special effects in this film are mind-blowing on a level that raises the bar for all movies which come after it. Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tilda Swinton give first-rate performances that elevate this motion picture in ways that have to be experienced to be truly understood. I like the fact that director Scott Derrickson is not afraid to use cues from contemporary directors to bring his vision of the character's world to life as some scenes will bring to mind circumstances from Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins and Inception. I know there has been some speculation about this film being a lot like the Iron Man movie with magic instead of tech, but I feel it has more in common with the Green Lantern movie in story and obviously executed successfully.

The film score by Michael Giacchino is unique and adds to the psychedelic environment of the movie like the use of the harpsichord in certain scenes that brought out the weirder moments. I had a good time with this motion picture and look forward to seeing it woven into the tapestry of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I rate this film a rating of 4 out of 5.

P.S.
This is a Marvel movie so you can expect a scene at the very end of the credits, but while you are waiting for that one you will also find a mid credit scene that ties into an upcoming MCU movie.
