A Father Makes His Own Justice...

A man who has had run-ins with the law finds himself protecting his estranged daughter from members of a drug cartel hunting her down. As he fights to keep her alive, he must use connections and skills from his past as an ex-con.

John Link is an ex-convict who was part of a criminal biker gang and an American war veteran now working as a tattoo artist until his daughter reconnects with him under dire circumstances. Lydia Carson is John’s estranged daughter who has gotten herself wrapped up with a member of a drug cartel and due to an unfortunate series of events, is now on the run from other members of that cartel which forces her to seek out her father. Kirby Curtis is John’s sponsor and friend who tries to come to his aid with the rest of the trailer park community they live in. Jonah Pincerna is member of a drug cartel who has formed a bond with Lydia and will do everything in his power to keep her.
Blood Father is a gritty action movie that you can enjoy on different levels due to it having some great performances. Mel Gibson reminds us why he should still be remembered as an action star, as he does a lot of the heavy lifting in every scene he is in. Erin Moriarty, William H. Macy and Diego Luna do solid jobs in their supporting roles to ground the story realistically. Jean-François Richet does an excellent job of directing the action in this film so well that you can almost feel the grime and sandy dust of the desert that a lot of it takes place in. Peter Craig has done an admirable job translating his book to a screenplay that gets you to care about what happens to these characters. I hope more people give this movie a watch as it is one of the better action films of 2016.

I rate this movie a 3 1/2 out of 5.
