A sequel that gives you more of what you liked in the original without the surprise...

An unlikely group of spacefaring adventurers learn the true origin of their leader. In so doing they are thrust into the heart of a intergalactic threat that could consume countless planets.

Peter Quill is the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy who is dealing with his feelings for his teammate Gamora when he meets his long lost extraterrestrial father. Nebula is an alien trying to understand her complex feelings between her sister Gamora who she blames for her childhood truma and her father Thanos who was the reason for the trauma. Yondu Udonta is the leader of a disgraced faction of Ravagers who must deal with the growing unrest among his crew as well as the knowledge of why Peter’s biological father is really looking for him. Ego is a Celestial who has been searching for his son to pass onto him his birthright which would uncover a dark secret that is kept within the recesses of the living planet.

Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2 is a fun romp around the cosmic areas of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If the first movie can be compared to the Star Wars franchise, then this installment is a definite homage to the Star Trek continuity. The new characters introduced help drive the plot as we get answers to the questions raised in the first film, but the answers we get are not the easiest to deal with as they come with a certain amount of baggage. The cast does a great job of recapturing the energy of the original as we get to flesh out the beings that inhabit this corner of the cosmos. James Gunn does a great job of writing and directing this second chapter of this motion picture series, but is not able to surprise the audience like he did the first time around. The soundtrack is not as endearing as it was in the first movie, but it does tie in to certain scenes so it means something to some of the characters in the story. The visuals are a wonder to behold with dazzling interstellar eye-candy that makes you wish you could travel to some of these wondrous places depicted on screen.

I rate this film a rating of 4 out of 5.

P.S. There are a combination of 5 mid credit and after credit scenes in this theatrical release which does not include the Easter eggs hidden in the actual credits so I would suggest sitting down and enjoying the full movie going experience.
