As a result of NEMA issuing the “all clear” and the completion of a post-hurricane assessment, please be advised that University of The Bahamas-North (UB-North) in East Grand Bahama will reopen on Tuesday, 12th September 2017for all faculty and staff.

8:30 PM UPATE: GBPC is aware that Power was recently lost in Greening Glade, Lucayan Knoll, Lowenmill, Arden Forest, Fortune Hills, Smiths Point, Port Lucaya Yatch Club, Tamarind Development, Kings Rd, Harbour House Towers, Taino Beach & Bell Channel as a result of a bush fire from downed electrical wires.

The public is advised that the Public Hospitals Authority has activated its hurricane preparedness plan. This plan specifically speaks to the physical securing of all PHA facilities inclusive of hospitals and clinics, the pending closure of all out-patient and specialty clinics, the suspension of elective surgeries, cessation of visiting hours, and the management of emergency service operations during the storm.

That was the admonishment from Minister of State for Grand Bahama, Senator Kwasi Thompson, during an emergency press briefing in regards to the threat of Hurricane Irma to The Bahamas, and Grand Bahama in particular.

Monday, 21st August, 2017 - The beautification and maintenance of the City of Freeport is always of paramount importance to The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (“GBPA”).

Due to the significant damage received from Hurricane Matthew and an increase in illegal dumping, GBPA has had to organize several efforts to restore the island to its previous state.

Dr. Vincent Burton Named President of Okyanos Center for Regenerative Medicine - Jul 25, 2017 - 9:12:12 PM

Freeport, Grand Bahama (July 26, 2017) – Vincent R. Burton, MBBS, FRCA, has been appointed President of Okyanos Center for Regenerative Medicine, which is licensed by the Bahamas’ National Stem Cell Ethics Committee (NSCEC).

Dr. Burton received his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS) from the University of the West Indies. He went on to complete residency training in the United Kingdom at Queen’s Hospital of Staffordshire, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital as well as Cambridge University’s Addenbrooke’s Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) and has served as Chief Anesthesiologist at Okyanos since the center opened in 2014.

Prior to Okyanos, Dr. Burton served as House Officer at the Rand Memorial and Princess Margaret Hospitals in Nassau. He later became Senior House Officer at the Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport and presently maintains his role as Consultant Anesthesiologist. Dr. Burton is a thought leader...

Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating book fair, is coming in July!

Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating book fair, will soon visit Freeport, The Bahamas for the first time!

Logos Hope last visited Nassau in 2010, but this will be her first-ever stop in Freeport.

Logos II, sister ship of Logos Hope, visited Freeport in 2006 and 2008.

The ship will be open in Freeport from July 28th to August 6th...

Alpitour flights from Italy return to Grand Bahama - Jun 16, 2017 - 5:59:34 PM

On Thursday, June 15th,the Alpitour Villaggi Bravo Charter flight returned to Grand Bahama Island to commence its summer program, after a successful charter season in 2016.

With a total of 103 passengers on board, the charter, which is the only direct flight from Milan, Italy to Grand Bahama Island, will allow visitors to experience a week-long vacation stay at the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Resort, partner property.
Cristina Cazzani from the Bahamas Tourist Office (BTO), Italy said that, "The Bahamas Tourist Office in Italy has a long relationship with travel to Grand Bahama... Since 1992, we have sent lots of Italians in the summer through our charters. Together with the Ministry of Tourism and the BTO, Italy, there has been an improved program for a direct flight from Milan to Freeport..."

CCC Calling for Immediate Change in Energy Sector on Grand Bahama - Jun 12, 2017 - 11:08:51 PM

The Economy of Grand Bahama continues to struggle and has been in crisis for some time. This crisis has become more evident in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. Since that time the job market has further retracted and unemployment has increased on the Island. There is a need for immediate action to revitalize and transform the Grand Bahama economy. The Coalition of Concerned Citizens (CCC) believes that one of the primary factors needed to revolutionize this economy and the energy sector is to lower the cost of electricity.

In 2015 the Grand Bahama Power Company submitted a rate application to the Regulatory Committee of the Grand Bahama Port Authority. The application requested an increase in the base rate of electricity at a time when the price of oil was plundering in global markets...

On Thursday, June 1st, the Ministry of Tourism's Religious Tourism Department, along with representatives from the International Association of Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Inc., held a press conference to inform the public of the 77th Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows annual convention set to be held on Grand Bahama Island.
