Significant Growth in Tourism Arrival Numbers Positively Affects the Abacos - Sep 4, 2018 - 3:31:47 PM

Due to a significant growth in tourism arrival numbers, the number of resorts and restaurants in the Abacos which are normally closed during the off-season has drastically decreased.

According to Wynsome Ferguson, Manager of the Abaco Tourist Office, all hotels in Marsh Harbour and Hope Town will remain open during the period of August – November, which is typically off-season on the island...

The Islands Of The Bahamas will once again be one of  the featured booths at the annual Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion(ATJFR) scheduled to take place this Labor Day weekend, August 30 – September 3, at the Gaylord Palms Resort, Kissimmee, Florida.

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation will be located in booth 808, as a part of what is being touted as “The Supersize Family Expo” of the well-attended event which is now in its 16th year as a major African-American Convention and Expo said to attract more than 50,000 family members of all ages each year...

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (BMOTA) recently held a joint dinner and mini tradeshow for sixty members of the Travel Industry Association (TIA) of South Florida.  The event, which was held at La Jolla in Coral Gables, marked the BMOTA’s return to TIA, the largest association of travel agents in South Florida.

During the evening, travel agents were educated on the new hotel product offerings in The Bahamas, as well as updated on the new airlift services and tourism programs.  The Bahamas update session was conducted by BMOTA sales and marketing team, led by Betty Bethel-Moss, Director of Sales (BMOTA),

“The 2018 EAA AirVenture Conference in Oshkosh, Wisconsin is over, but the Islands of The Bahamas made quite an impression there and seized additional business opportunities for its tourism and aviation sectors,” so said Captain Greg Rolle, Sr. Director of Vertical Markets and Aviation at The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (BMOTA).

Captain Rolle, who is the only non-North American to have ever served as Chairman of the influential International Federal Partnership (IFP) organization, said, “The Bahamas is the only country, outside of the USA and Canada, to be a part of the prestigious IFP, which works closely with Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) representatives on this event.

Bahamas Tourism reveals strong positive trends in international arrivals - Aug 17, 2018 - 1:17:05 PM

International arrivals in The Bahamas show a solid growth of +10.2 percent year-to-date, maintaining the tourism turnaround that began in October of 2017. The growth trend is driven by strong performance from the U.S. but a 29.6 percent increase through July in arrivals from Canada is also contributing to the overall growth story. The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation restarted robust marketing and communications efforts in North America telling The Bahamas travel story to consumers by bringing travel journalists and digital influencers to the country...

The British Colonial Hilton is looking to become more family friendly by hosting the Rake, Scrape N’ Scorch Festival on August 25.

The event is geared toward providing an authentic Bahamian experience at the grounds of the historic hotel.

Minister of Tourism Makes Terminally Ill Child’s Dream Come True - Aug 13, 2018 - 11:46:09 AM

Seventeen-year-old Grayson Richardson is battling a rare type of brain cancer called anaplastic astrocytoma.  About 1,200 children under 19 are diagnosed with glioma (brain tumor) per year in the United States with a fraction of those being astrocytoma. Since being diagnosed Grayson has been a fighter. He has had a combination of two brain surgeries, forty-four rounds of chemotherapy and heavy doses of steroid used to keep brain swelling down. Since treatment, his body has changed dramatically and he is completely blind on the right side of both of his eyes, and is now unable to read or speak clearly...

With the recent success of Shark Week’s 30th season on Discovery Channel, The Islands Of The Bahamas received tremendous exposure globally. In the process, the Bahamas National Trust (BNT) was awarded more than $250,000 toward its efforts for shark and marine conservation.

Shark Week, television’s longest-running program, aired its 30th season on Discovery Channel, July 22-29, 2018 during prime time.  According to the latest television ratings released by the Nielsen Company, the week-long shows, which featured several A-list celebrities, with some shows filmed in The Bahamas, topped both last year’s Shark Week and Shark Week 2016 across adults, men and women 25-54 and 18-49 years old...

Much to the delight of Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation officials, Junkanoo Summer Festival 2018 has shattered international visitor attendance records.

According to data compiled from a number of bus shuttles in New Providence that provided guest transportation between hotels/cruise ships and the festival site, more than 1,000 visitors flocked to Arawak Cay from July 7 to August 4 to be a part of the signature festival.

During the festival, patrons were able to experience succulent food, shop for authentic Bahamian craft...
