Deputy Chairman of the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI), Peter Whitehead recently made good on his promise to donate an Apple computer to the institution.

The Apple iMac computer is to be used in further improving and maintaining the institution’s brand by way of desktop publishing.

Mr. Whithead has been a board member for the past six years and believes proper use of the Apple iMac will go a long way in enhancing and promoting BTVI’s product...

Good food, great wine, and art will take center stage on October 27th and 28th for the annual BNT Wine & Art Festival 2018. The event, now in its 28th year, is being reimagined by organizers to provide two days of creativity, cuisine, and of course, wine & art, all set against the backdrop of the garden oasis that is the Retreat Garden on Village Road - one of 32 National Parks managed by the Bahamas National Trust.

 “This year we really wanted to up the ante for our guests and provide an even better experience than they’ve come to expect from Wine & Art,” said BNT Executive Director Eric Carey, “and we’re doing that with the help of an amazing team of sponsors including our new title sponsor, Commonwealth Brewery”...

BAMSI students dive against debris - Oct 15, 2018 - 10:20:24 PM

FOR MANY people marine debris is out of sight, out of mind. Thankfully however, divers have the unique ability to bring to the surface what is going on beneath the waves…and this is exactly what the student dive team of the Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Institute (BAMSI) has been engaging in over the past few weeks. The project is part of a global initiative called ‘Dive Against Debris’ which was first launched in 2011 by Project AWARE.

The dive team, accompanied by Dr. Vallierre Deleveaux, head of BAMSI’s marine science division and a PADI open water scuba instructor, removed debris from Captain Bill’s Blue Hole located in Blue Holes National Park in Central Andros...

On a brisk Saturday morning in September, the team at Spectrum Health Center (off Rosetta Street) hosted its first Annual Back-To-School Walkathon. “We had a good turnout,” shared Dr. Juanita Pratt, Operations Manager. “Some of the top runners and power walkers in the country participated in the event, along with the physicians who practice at Spectrum Health and other people who just wanted to have some fun and support a good cause.” Participants walked or ran almost 4 miles (6km) from Spectrum Health Center to Montagu Beach and back. Some of the proceeds from the event were donated to the Children’s Emergency Hostel...

Yvette Williams was diagnosed with breast cancer on the 27th July 2000. One week later she had a mastectomy.

She is one of many women in The Bahamas who made the radical decision to save their lives even if it meant parting ways with a part of their bodies that makes them feel more feminine.

Reports are that on Tuesday 9th October 2018, shortly before 4:00pm, officers of the Central Detective Unit along with Immigration officers and the K-9 Unit, acting on information, went to Florin Drive, South Bahamia, and discovered in bushes, (9) crocus bags, all containing packages of suspected marijuana.

The weight of the suspected marijuana was (226) pounds with a street value of $226,000.00. There were no arrest made in this matter, investigation will continue...
