Reports are that on Monday 27th August 2018, shortly before 9:00pm, officers of Rapid Response Unit, acting on information and armed with a search warrant, proceeded to a residence on Bruce Avenue, where they discovered (3) .45 ammunition. Two males of that residence was arrested and taken into police custody.

Officers discovered two packages of suspected marijuana and a quantity of cash. Three males were arrested and taken into police custody..

The Bahamas Marine Mammal Research Organisation (BMMRO) responded to the report of a live stranded pilot whale on August 23rd on the beach just north of Crossing Rocks, Abaco. 

With the help of Crossing Rocks community members, BMMRO’s team was able to push the 11-foot young adult female whale back out to sea but had to hold it upright so that it did not drown. Two sharks patrolled nearby. During the rescue, BMMRO scientist Dr. Diane Claridge discovered a 3-foot long and 3-inch deep cut on the whale’s underside, deep enough to have cut into the muscle...

Recently, little Miss Markaylah Foster, an 8-year-old third grade student at Hugh W. Campbell Primary, reached out to the Keep Grand Bahama Clean (KGBC) Committee through her Grandmother, Chrystal Johnson, and Parents, Michelle Gaitor and Marcel Foster, expressing an interest in becoming an environmental ambassador and junior member of the KGBC initiative.

During a specially organized courtesy meeting, little Markaylah shared her love for the environment and some of the things that she would like to see done in her community. “I would like to see more garbage bins on the streets and encourage persons to stop littering” commented Markaylah.

Police are pleased to report that murder suspect William Etienne, who was wanted for questioning in connection with a homicide which occurred on Friday, 24th August, 2018 at East Street and Balfour Avenue, has been captured.

Shortly after 4:00pm, Sunday 27th August, 2018, Flying Squad Officers conducted a search of a Taylor Shop on Balfour Avenue west of East Street, located and took Etienne into custody without incident...

Reports are that on Saturday 25th August 2018 shortly after 6:00am, a male and female employee of a business establishment, while entering their place of employment on Coral Road, were held up and robbed at gunpoint by a lone male armed with a firearm, who robbed them of a deposit bag containing a quantity of money.

Reports are that on Saturday 25th August 2018, shortly after 8:00am, officers while on routine patrol in Alice Town, Bimini, observed a vehicle with two male passengers and a strong odor emanating from it. Officers then stopped, and proceeded to search the vehicle and both suspects reference to possession of dangerous drugs. While doing so, the driver fled the scene making good his escape. Officers then searched the passenger and vehicle where they discovered a quantity of suspected marijuana on the passenger and inside the vehicle...

It was only a few weeks ago that the late Chief Justice was confirmed in his substantive post. Bahamians had looked forward to more years of distinguished service by this luminary and true patriot. Unfortunately, this was not to be and we have lost a brilliant jurist who contributed enormously to the development of the legal profession in The Bahamas.

Members of the legal fraternity will remember him as a respected gentleman who left an indelible mark on the judiciary and on our jurisprudence. A grateful nation salutes him for his service and dedication over the years...
