Shooting victim identified:
Police have identified the male who was killed in Millennium
Gardens on Saturday, 15th June, 2019, as Cordero Smith, age 27 years, of
Sister Maria Rahming Drive, Millennium Gardens. Smith was inside his
home when a gunman opened fire on him, subsequently killing him.
Suspect to be formally charged: Police are pleased to report that a 26 year old male resident of Baillou
Hill Road, will be formally charged before a Magistrate Court on
Tuesday, 18th June, 2019 at 2:00pm, in connection with the death of

shooting and stabbing incident Monday, 17th June 2019, which left two
adult males with injuries.

RBPF: Police in Grand Bahama investigates shopbreaking

Reports are that on Friday 14th June 2019 shortly after 6:00am,
police were called to a well-known business establishment on Queens
Highway, where culprits break and entered the southern entrance door to
that establishment and removed an ATM machine, property of First
Caribbean Bank (CIBC).
Police are assiduously
investigating this matter and are appealing to the general public for
any information, no matter how minute the information may seem, to call
the Central Detective Unit in Grand Bahama at telephone numbers 350-3107
University of The Bahamas Launching Gov't Funded Tertiary Grant Programme

A consolidated grant programme that will fund tuition, compulsory course
fees, stipends and accommodation payments for students who must
relocate to attend University of The Bahamas (UB) will take effect in
Fall 2019, the Minister of Education Hon. Jeffrey L. Lloyd announced
during his contribution to the budget debate in the House of Assembly on
Wednesday, 12th June.
Following the announcement, UB President
Dr. Rodney D. Smith explained that the new Bahamas Government Tertiary
Education Grant Programme is a major initiative that will increase

Upside-Down, Speed Paintings by Jamaal Rolle raise US$21,000 for Rotary’s End Polio Now

At the invitation of Rotary International (R.I.) President Barry Rassin,
Celebrity Artist and Rotarian, Jamaal Rolle was asked to paint two “End
Polio Now” creations at 10 minutes each before a live audience. The
artist added a surprise twist by creating his work of art, upside-down
to the delight of everyone.
It was a race with the clock, it was
pure energy and fun of what materialized on stage that had the audience
of 25,000 persons from around the world in suspense which turned to
admiration of the artist’s charm and talent. Rolle started with a blank
canvas painting most of it upside-down...

Staff and management of Garden of the Groves and the Garden
Cafe are heartbroken about the passing of Ben and Judy. Ben was employed
by the Garden of the Groves sister company, Grand Bahama Nature Tours,
as a snorkel and kayak guide, from 2002 until 2017 when he retired to
continue to immerse himself in the creation of paintings that
represented the Grand Bahama environment on land and below the sea!
and Judy were such an important part of the Garden of the Groves and
Grand Bahama Nature Tours Family and our memories are such happy ones!

Abaco police are investigating a traffic fatality that has left a male dead

Reports are that on Thursday 6th June 2019 shortly after 6:00am, police
were called to Forrest Drive, Abaco, where a black Mazda vehicle and a
red and black Honda motorcycle were involved in a head on collision. The
driver of the motorcycle, a 35 year old male of Abaco died at the
scene. The driver and passenger of the Mazda vehicle, both resident of
Marsh Harbour, Abaco, were taken to the Marsh Harbour Medical Center
