UWI Bestows Honorary Doctorate on Award-winning Jamaican Jazz Maestro Monty Alexander - Aug 10, 2018 - 11:30:32 AM

Over five decades of performances and more than 70 CDs later, award-winning Jamaican-born jazz maestro, Monty Alexander, is being bestowed with an honorary doctorate degree from the University of West Indies, (UWI).

Alexander, born Montgomery Bernard Alexander on D-Day in Kingston, Jamaica, will be presented with a Honorary Doctor of Letters from the UWI Mona Campus this November.

Reggae Dancehall artiste I-Octane is the latest dancehall act to be included in Magnum Tonic Wine’s regional mega stage-show series Magnum Xplosion. The event, which has seen previous stagings in Guyana, Barbados and Trinidad, will this weekend charge into the Caribbean island chain of The Bahamas. The show slated for Bahamas National Stadium Sports Center, will feature performances from Busy Signal, Ding Dong and I-Octane alongside local Bahamian acts Dj Mix-a-lot, Dj- Stunner and Selecta Fawteen....

It showed me in shock as filmmaker Ryan Coogler, his wife and the Cannes Film Festival Assistant assigned to them, casually walk right by me inside the world famous Palais Des Festivals. I’m hardly ever that star struck anymore as I see most filmmakers and actors as colleagues in this business, but this was RYAN COOGLER, or as I’ve come to refer to him as just “Coogler”. Mr. Coogler wasn’t aware that I was filming them on my iPhone for a few seconds as they waited by the elevator, but needless to to say that my #Coogler story was the most most watched and the most well received in my direct messages...
