Nassau, Bahamas - The Bahamas Historical Society's next talk takes place on Wednesday, 11th April at 6pm with Eric Wiberg on “ U-Boats in the Bahamas and Bermuda Triangle”.

Because of war time censorship it was not well known that The Bahamas was an important theatre of war during World War 2. German and italian U-Boats sought to destroy cargo ships carrying vital war materials, especially oil from Texas and Venezuela, to embattled Great Britain. These ships were easy prey as they transitted the narrow shipping lanes around the Bahamas archipelago.

Eric has over 80,000 nautical miles of seagoing experience under his keel, and his experience as a licensed US Merchant Marine Officer since age 25 colours the narrative and his understanding of events on the allied side. He has ridden aboard nearly a dozen tankers and bulkers in his 20-year maritime career.
