Americans are spending an estimated $6 billion on Honeymoons. That is according to the recent Honeymoon Study 2010 completed by WE TV Network Wedding Report an agency that provides wedding statistics and marketing research for the wedding industry.

The report released in November and appearing the on website The Wedding Report.com  reveals that the estimated value of the Honeymoon market is $5.91 billion. With the average honeymoon lasting 7.6 days and costing the couple $3,473.00.

The Honeymoon Study 2010,  the Industry’s most comprehensive look at the American Honeymoon also list the Caribbean as the top honeymoon destination and that the nearly 15 percent of newly wed couple who chose a cruise, 47 percent uses Carnival.

Here are the top line results of the study:
  • 81% of newly married couples take a honeymoon
  • 15% of newly married couples chose a cruise as their primary accommodation of which, 47% use Carnival
  • Most couples leave right away for their honeymoon
  • On average, couples stay 7.6 days on their honeymoon
  • On average, a single couple will spend $3,473 on their honeymoon
  • Estimated Honeymoon market value is $5.91 billion
  • Top honeymoon destination, The Caribbean
  • Top activity, Sightseeing
The good news for the Bahamas is that it is one of only two Caribbean Islands featured in AskMen.comTop 10-Honeymoon Destination and Top 10 - Elite Beaches.

And according to The Minister of Tourism, Senator  The Hon. Vincent Vanderpool Wallace “people love islands and The Bahamas has more islands than all the rest of the Caribbean combined; and more beaches than all the Caribbean combined; and we have more territorial water than all the islands in the Caribbean also. Also the clearest water in the world.  The combination of these things is why people come to The Bahamas for weddings and honeymoons."

This means for those considering a Caribbean honeymoon,  that the Bahamas having so many beautiful islands to choose from is an ideal location.
