For many of us, the holiday season is an opportunity to be more glamorous and alluring with our personal style.
In recent years, the rise of street style and Instagram influencers have pushed luxury fashion houses to adopt a more flexible approach to holiday fashions, allowing consumers to express their personal style using designer pieces.
The rise of the ugly sweater craze is just one example of how consumers have gone anti-designer fashion.
Designers are catering to this desire for individualism more and more, and as a result, there are no major seasonal fashion trends, and the distinction between high and low fashion is becoming increasingly blurred. You now can pay luxury prices for everything from designer sneakers and sweatshirts to bicycle shorts: luxury touches nearly all fashion styles from street wear to formal.
But despite these changes to the fashion world, both American and European luxury designers continue to offer a certain indulgence, expressed in rich colours and classic silhouettes, for those who want an extra touch of extravagance this fall.

Play it Again, Ralph
Ralph Lauren has always reinvented iconic silhouettes from the first half of the last century, delivering fresh takes on classic looks and his latest collection was no exception. At NYFW, Lauren presented classic old-world glamour with a collection of black and white tuxedo dresses, including a fabulous halter neck dress.
Another stand-out from his collection was a sequin gown in lipstick red that looked straight out of the jazz era of 1920s New York City.
Alluring Capes
Last winter, New York women were bundled-up in oversized down filled jackets. Functional? Perhaps. But stylish? Not necessarily.
This year however, outerwear for the luxury crowd takes a more glamorous turn with wool capes that are both mysterious and alluring.

Featured in Marc Jacobs fall/winter collection, watch for double-breasted capes in grey plaids and animal prints as the colder weather descends upon our urban streets.
One youthful look is achieved by pairing a long cape with a mini skirt and boots. Even better – match the color of the skirt with that of the cape for a next-level monochrome look.
Bold Colours
Bold hues, such as pistachio, purple, bright orange and neon green, were everywhere on the fall/winter runways, providing fashionistas with a whole new palette to contrast with the traditional darker autumnal tones of blacks, browns and grays.
Pistachio, a soft hue, feels fresh and works well in both clothing and accessories. Purples, particularly the softer tones like lavender and lilac, pair well with dark greys. Bright orange looks smashing with both light blonde and dark hair and neon green is now being used as a neutral and is paired with just about anything.
By injecting bold color into one’s fall wardrobe, with a turtleneck sweater or long coat, certainly livens up a dark rainy day. These new hues are sure to turn heads.
From elegant black and white gowns for evenings to flowing capes worn over work wear to bold colours on weekends, luxury fashion this fall/winter is all about being well-dressed, sophisticated and standing out from the crowd.
