There is an underlying sensual fever with the new spring fashions. Lingerie-inspired looks of embroidered silk and lace, soft flowing ruffles and sexy bare shoulders have emerged from the luxury designer collections of Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta and Givenchy. Sleepwear, it appears, has transformed into day-wear.

Creative director Peter Copping, of Oscar de la Renta, has taken his inspiration from the culturally rich flamingo dance of Spain and delivered a vibrant red-hued ruffle ensemble that was a runway showstopper. His use of a sexy black Chantilly lace tank top under a poppy jacquard capelet, paired with a matching pencil skirt, is an exquisite example of the new sexual chic that will ensure the iconic American label continues to reign supreme well into the future, despite the death of the company’s namesake founder last year.

Michael Kors did not disappoint either, with his voluptuous red sheer outfit featuring a soft ruffle skirt that he paired with a simple black leather belt. Sheer is one of my favourite looks in recent seasons. It oozes a mysteriousness that is virtually irresistible.

The new erogenous zone this season is the bare shoulder, in the return of spaghetti strap slip dresses, which were first introduced by Kate Moss in the 90s. Paired with a biker jacket on top, it was a look of effortless rock n’ roll sensuality that looks to be on the verge of a comeback.

Givenchy’s spring collection includes an elegant silk satin black dress with elastic band and lace paired with cady stretch trousers with detached satin bands that brings to mind pajama and loungewear dressing.

Fashion designers are bringing the soft and seductive side of women out of the bedroom this season with ultra-luxurious slip and baby doll mini dresses, camisoles and sheer nightshirts. Lingerie has never been more chic.
