February is here and you may not have started that workout plan you promised yourself you would at the start of the year. Fashion to the rescue! You may not have the svelte physique of a supermodel, but that doesn’t mean you cant look long and lean as you strut your stuff everyday. With just a few style adjustments and well placed accessories, even everyday janes can elongate their figure for a sleek, lithe silhouette. Read on to learn how to visually add inches to your height and remove inches from your frame with a few minor adjustments to your wardrobe.

Go Monochromatic. This is one of the most popular ways to look lean. Wearing one color head to toe tricks the eye into seeing one long line. Wearing separates in different colors divides your frame which can make you appear bulky and shorter than you really are. When wearing a monochromatic look, you can have fun by mixing different textures. It’s also fine to add a pop of color into your look with accessories, but make sure you wear them in areas you do not mind drawing attention to. If wearing just one color head to toe bores you, try wearing different shades of the same color which has a similar slimming effect.

Choose Bootleg Jeans. The fashion gods have ousted skinny leg jeans, at least for the spring and heralded in wider leg denim and trousers. Go middle of the road with bootleg jeans and jeans with a slight flare, which tend to be flattering on many different body types. Opt for a darker wash when choosing your perfect pair of jeans. Darker washes not only look more modern, but are more slimming than their lighter wash counterparts.

Wear Heels.
Growing up, my ultra feminine mother always scolded me for schlepping around town in flip flops, touting the benefits of wearing legitimate shoes with higher heels. Even a little heel adds length, so no need to teeter atop sky high stilettos to appear taller. If you’re new to heels, opt for a chunky heel with a platform sole or a wedge.

Opt for Open Necklines. V-necks and deep scoop necks are by far the most flattering necklines on virtually every body type because they visually elongate your frame. They are especially flattering if you have a shorter neck that you would like to appear longer. Another trick is accessorizing with long necklaces. Long necklaces keep the eye moving up and down, making you appear taller.

Wear Clothes That Fit. Every trick in the book will be pointless if you don’t wear clothes that are tailored for your body. Let go of your obsession with the number on the tag and remember it’s all about the fit. Wearing pieces that are too big add bulk and wearing those that are too small highlights bulges and bumps for a look that is just as unflattering. Princess seams and well placed darts all work to create a tailored look that fits your specific body. Creating a relationship with a great tailor is invaluable. Simply adding darts to a skirt or blouse can take it from unflattering to stellar for just a few bucks.
