Oh how I love the femininity and ease of wearing a great dress. Alas, separates are having a go in the spotlight as well. Though it was highly popular several years ago, my current separate silhouette of choice is the tapered pant.
Don’t let the tapered pant of yesteryear scare you away from trying out this chic yet comfortable look that is au courant and uber flattering when worn the right way.

Highly popular during the 80s and 90s, the traditional tapered pant typically sits high on the waist, balloons at the hips and tapers at the ankle - think Duran Duran, Annie Lennox and of course MC Hammer.

Thankfully this comfy silhouette has gotten a much needed fashion overhaul and the result is a sleek silhouette ideal for the fashionista who values comfort just as much as style.

Wear Heels

Tapered pants add volume to the hips and thighs, making it essential to pair them with heels especially if you are short. Pairing your tapered pant with heels will elongate your frame, adding balance to the loose fitting style of the pant.

Structure

Opposites attract. The key to looking great is remembering to always seek balance in your look. A relaxed pant works well with a structured top and is a great way to ‘dress up’ a sleek pair of linen tapered pants and transform them into a casual friday staple in your workwear wardrobe arsenal.

Perfect Fit

Toss out the outdated notion that tapered pants should sit high on the waist and billow out excessively. The modern adaptation of this comfortable silhouette can be tres chic when it fits correctly. Choose a pant that sits at your natural waistline or slightly below.  The pants should have a little breathing room in the hips and thighs which conceals imperfections such as a little extra junk in the trunk or slightly thicker thighs.

Balance

Great style mavens always remember to keep their proportions in check. When wearing a voluminous bottom a fool proof way to stay balances and avoid looking like you are drowning in your look is to keep your top fitted. A tailored button down tucked in your tapered pants and cinched with a skinny belt will pull your look together in no time flat and counterbalance the volume of the bottom.
