I have always maintained that I do not believe in love at first sight. That was until I saw these drool-worthy Aldo Eppihimer mustard wedges with tassels. One of my favorite colors, in one of my favorite shoe styles made even more special with a slight oxford influence and grown-up tassels.

Tassels were a huge trend last fall and we’re seeing it pop up again in accessories and shoes for the season. Wedges, the ever so comfortable style that provides just as much height and style as their distant cousin the stiletto are also huge this fall season.

Shoe trends for this fall are bold and rich. Exotic skins, patent leather and chunky heels will be chic and au courant during the coming months and leading into winter.

The right shoe can take a simple outfit to levels of grandeur. Below are my top five fall shoe trends to keep your feet in fashion this coming fall.

Reptile Skins

Reptile skins have slithered their way into my top 5 shoe trends for the fall season. Animal prints are a mainstay in shoe trends. This season designers from Balenciaga to Donna Karan are favoring rich python in lieu of the leapard and cheetah prints that dominated last year.

If you’re weary of diving foot first into the python trend, err on the conservative side with a neutral metallic python embossed style. This is also great option for those who want the look of python skin but aren’t fond of wearing the real thing. Pewter is a great metallic option that works as a pseudo neutral. Because it is a pseudo neutral it and can be paired with outfits of may different colors including black, pink and coral as well as blue.

Patent Leather

High gloss and high fashion - patent leather is back on the radar in a major way this season. If you’re like me, you can recall your shiny patent leather shoes in either black or white with a miniature heel reserved strictly for church events. This season patent leather is all grown up. Many patent leather styles are being pumped with with color blocking in bold hues such as tomato red for statement making footwear.

Satin

Sleek and sexy, satin shoes are ultra feminine and tres chic this season. They are traditionally associated with formal occasions such as weddings, however they can add a delicate feminine element to everyday casual looks as well. Whether you gravitate toward delicate nude hues or prefer to turn heads in a bold electric blue, satin fabric has a way of making even the simplest style look special.

Though these shoes are a dream to wear and look at, they are harder to care for than more durable options such as leather. A great trick is to spare your satin shoes with several coats of hairspray before you wear them. Two to three coats works well, ensuring that you allow the shoes to dry completely between coats.

Chunky Heels

Chunky heels are a savior for those who want the height of a traditional stiletto but are not fond of teetering atop a narrow heel. Many women fall into two categories, die-hard stiletto fans or staunch chunky heel fans. Whether wedges, platform flats or traditional heels with a chunky heel, comfort and practicality are the main attractions for women who prefer thicker heels, but do not forget their high style potential. Designers including Fendi and Rag & Bone all chose chunky heel styles down the runway to complement their fall collections.

After diamonds, shoes are definitely a girl’s best friend. Treat yourself to a trendy, knock-out pair this fall!
