Illegal Haitian sloop intercepted in Providenciales - Apr 7, 2014 - 3:01:36 PM
TURKS & CAICOS -
The Minister of Border Control and Labour Hon. Ricardo Don Hue Gardner
would like to advise that at approximately 11:53pm on Sunday night and
landed at South Dock at 2:00am today Monday April 7, 2014, an illegal
Haitian sloop was intercepted by the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands
Police Force Marine Branch and towed into South Dock, Providenciales.
The
15 females and 69 males on board have already been taken to the
detention facility where they will be processed prior to being
repatriated.

Miss Universe Turks and Caicos Beauties Explores North and Middle Caicos - Apr 2, 2014 - 3:45:19 PM

Monday, March 31st 2014 – The beauties of the 2014 Miss Universe Turks
and Caicos Pageant vying for the country’s coveted and most esteemed
title put their high-heels aside, slipped on their sandals and toured
the islands of North Caicos and Middle Caicos on Saturday, March 29th
courtesy of B&B Service Station and the Festerama Committee.
Onboard
a ferry from Providenciales to North Caicos, the excitement begun as
the contestants anticipated their second off island trip during sixteen
weeks of appearances, coaching sessions, rehearsals and other activities
in preparation for the big competition nights. The week before the
North Caicos and Middle Caicos adventure, the contestants visited Grand
Turk and took part in a grand motorcade and enjoyed themselves at a

Tsunami evacuation signs produced in TCI - Apr 1, 2014 - 4:12:05 PM
The Department of Disaster Management &
Emergencies partnered with the Turks and Caicos Islands Red Cross Branch
to produce temporary Tsunami Evacuation Signs for the regional
exercise on Grand Turk last Wednesday March 26, 2014. The signs which
were produced as part of the Red Cross’ Disaster Risk Reduction
Programme were placed along the route to the highest points in Grand
Turk, Nookie Hill and the Green Door.

Association (TCIFA) will be hosting a CONCACAF Grassroots workshop in
early April 2014. The TCIFA, through CONCACAF, is putting on this
initiative in the Turks & Caicos Islands to further strengthen the
TCIFA’s youth development programmes, whilst educating its stakeholders.

Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association
Football, commonly known as CONCACAF, is the continental governing body
for association football in North America, Central America and the
Caribbean, to which the TCIFA is a member.

TCI Tsunami Drill update issued by DDME - Mar 26, 2014 - 6:45:33 PM
TURKS & CAICOS - The Department of
Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME) has reported on the progress
of the earthquake and tsunami drill that took place on Grand Turk today,
March 26, 2014.
At 6:17 am today
March 26, 2014,
the DDME issued a message to begin the Exercise based on a scenario
that an earthquake in the AZORES-CAPE ST. VINCENT RIDGE had triggered a
tsunami that would impact the TCI within a few hours.
Evacuation orders were issued at
10:00am
and the alarms sounded. The DDME reported the use of several alerting
methods. These included, the bells at the St Mary’s Pro Cathedral
Anglican Cathedral and St Thomas Anglican Church and the Police Sirens
as well as emails.

DEMA Warns of Thimble Jellyfish Outbreak - Mar 19, 2014 - 4:27:58 PM
TURKS & CAICOS - The Department of Environment
and Maritime Affairs (DEMA) would like to caution swimmers, snorkelers
and divers to the possible presence of thimble jellyfish also known as
sea lice, in the Grace Bay and Northwest Point areas of Providenciales.
Thimble jellyfish (Linuche spp.)
vary in size from approximately 0.5 inch, up to approximately 1.5
inches in diameter. The stings do not usually cause immediate pain.
Contact with the jellyfish can cause a reaction known as “sea bather’s
eruption,” which can result in painful itchy welts, usually at
waistbands and bikini lines where the clothing comes into close contact
with skin. The jellyfish swim in swarms that are identified by brownish
clouds of small thimble-like organisms. Swimmers are therefore advised...

TCI Finance Ministry Restructures Business Licensing Regime - Mar 13, 2014 - 1:23:34 PM
TURKS & CAICOS
ISLANDS - The Ministry of Finance, Trade and Investment has announced an
extension of all current business licences to June 30, 2014 to
facilitate the review of the government’s Business Licensing
Administration.
As part of its Revenue Rationalisation Strategy,
the Turks and Caicos Government is reviewing the Business Licensing
Administration with a view to expanding the number of categories to
ensure that businesses are registered in the appropriate categories and
paying the fees applicable to the category in which they are operating.
Currently almost 40 percent of businesses are licensed under the
miscellaneous category.

Recent press reports which have come to the attention of the Integrity
Commission suggest that there may be some confusion concerning some
provisions of the Code of Conduct for Persons in Public Life (the Code)
and in particular how its provisions on conflict of interests apply to
Hon. Members of the House of Assembly. The Commission has been in
correspondence with the Deputy Speaker concerning the specific concerns
she raised as to her own position. Given that these concerns have become
a matter of public debate, the Commission feels it would be useful to
clarify matters for the benefit of the public.

Glinton Primary School in Grand Turk were seen with Chicken Pox by the
Ministry of Health Primary Health Care Department on 3rd March 2014.
Chickenpox
is a very contagious disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus
(VZV). It causes a blister-like rash, itching, tiredness, and fever.
Chickenpox can be serious, especially in babies, adults, and people with
weakened immune systems. It spreads easily from infected people to
others who have never had chickenpox or received the chickenpox vaccine.
Chickenpox spreads in the air through coughing or sneezing.

TCIG Adopts New “No Purchase Order, No Payment” Policy - Mar 3, 2014 - 12:00:45 PM

Ministry of Finance, Trade and Investment announced today March 3,
2014, its new “No Purchase Order, No Payment” policy which becomes
effective on April 1, 2014.
The Ministry is urging ALL vendors
and providers of goods and services to the Turks and Caicos Islands
Government (TCIG), to take note of the new No Purchase Order, No Payment
policy which aims to improve internal controls over outstanding bills
and ensures the timely payment and clearance of debts.
As of
April 1, 2014, when the “No Purchase Order, No Payment” phase of the
Turks and Caicos Islands Government procurement policy takes effect, all
financial commitments for goods and services on behalf of TCIG MUST...

Former TCI Chief Justice, Richard Ground passes away - Feb 26, 2014 - 2:31:36 PM
TURKS AND CAICOS - Sir
Richard Ground, a former Chief Justice and Court of Appeal judge of the
Turks and Caicos Islands, died last Saturday, February 22nd, in
Grindelford, Derbyshire, in his native England. He was 64 years old.
He is survived by his wife Dace McCoy Ground. Sir Richard was Chief Justice of the Turks and Caicos Islands from 1998 to 2004.
He was held in very high esteem by his colleagues and friends in the
Cayman Islands, Bermuda and the Turks and Caicos Islands where he served
with distinction from back in the 1980s.

United States Shares Forfeited Assets with the Turks and Caicos Islands Inbox x - Feb 18, 2014 - 5:22:08 PM
In
a ceremony today at the U.S. Consular Agency, John Dinkelman, Chargé d’Affaires,
presented the Government of Turks and Caicos with a check for $
$279,620.32. This money is a percentage
of net assets seized in a securities fraud case conducted by the New York
Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States. The primary defendant, “Sammy” Galasso III,
pled guilty in this case and was sentenced to a term of 30 months imprisonment.
Turks and Caicos
Island authorities provided valuable law enforcement assistance leading to the
successful forfeiture of these monies and collaborated with the U.S. Government to seize these funds.
