TCI Prison Service Extends Rehabilitation Initiatives with New Course - Feb 10, 2014 - 1:58:07 PM

TURKS & CAICOS - The Ministry of Environment and Home Affairs and Her Majesty’s Prison on Friday 7th February 2014 announced the completion of yet another phase of the Prison Rehabilitation Strategy when members of the staff completed victim empathy training.

Officers of Her Majesty’s Prison along with the Gender Affairs coordinator completed an eight day training course to qualify officers to deliver VEP ‘Victim Empathy Program’ Training to offenders.  The course was delivered by UKHMPS Offending Behaviour Delivery Manager, Mr. Simon Drysdale and ran from 29th January 2014 to the 7th February 2014.

TCI Post Office to Reopen, Deputy Governor and Deputy Premier to Meet with Staff - Feb 6, 2014 - 9:41:23 AM

TURKS & CAICOS - The Ministry of Government Support Services (GSS) has advised that members of staff of the Providenciales Post Office are currently working out of the Public Works Department, Butterfield Square while their temporary location is retrofitted for occupancy. 

The Ministry advised further, that from 2:00pm today February 6, 2014, the public should be able to purchase stamps and access other services at the Post Office’s temporary home: Suite 1010, 23 Parade Avenue, Town Centre Mall, in the vicinity of the Government Treasury in Downtown Providenciales...

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands – A renowned Croatian footballer will be in the Turks and Caicos Islands this weekend. Davor Šuker, President of the Croatian Football Federation (CFF) and the winner of the 1998 World Cup Golden Boot, has reached out to Turks & Caicos Islands Football Association’s (TCIFA) General Secretary and FIFA, CONCACAF and CFU Executive Committee Members in December 2013, to offer assistance and intensify a relationship with the Member Association.

On Saturday, February 8th, Šuker will be attending the TCIFA’s Grassroots Development Programme which takes place every weekend at the Academy’s football pitch on Venetian Road in Providenciales.

TURKS & CAICOS - The Ministry of Government Support Services (GSS) would like to inform the public that the Providenciales Post Office which was closed today February 3, 2014, will re-open for business tomorrow February 4, 2013 at 8:00am.

The Post Office is being temporarily relocated to Suite 10-10, 23 Parade Avenue, Town Centre Mall, in the vicinity of the Government Treasury in Downtown Providenciales.

The closure of the existing facilities is to enable extensive restoration works as TCIG takes steps to improve the conditions for workers and clients alike.

TURKS and CAICOS ISLANDS -  On January 21, 2014 four prisoners received Anger Management Graduation certification, while a total of six prisoners qualified for the certificates, two had been released from prison and will receive their certificates later.

The Anger Management sessions run by Reverend John Malcolm ( far left in the photo), from the National Drug Unit, are a key element in the rehabilitation strategy at the Prison. Assistant Superintendent Meshelle Jennings  is the Prison’s co coordinator for such interventions. The graduates mentioned how the course had helped them in developing skills to deal with situations and have a system of coping when they need to put into practice the stepped program they had learned...

Michael Misick gets hero's welcome in TCI: Granted bail with conditions - Jan 15, 2014 - 8:47:30 PM

Former Premier Michael Misick was granted bail with conditions by Chief Justice Edwin Goldsbrough on Tuesday January 7th, hours after returning to the Turks and Caicos Islands to a hero’s welcome.

However, the 47-year-old former leader was temporarily remanded to prison in Grand Turk because all of the bail conditions could not be met when the court closed late Tuesday. If Misick meets the bail conditions before Monday, January 13th 2014, he will be released earlier.

Earlier in the day, Misick was denied bail by Magistrate Kelly Cheema, but his legal team led by Oliver Smith appealed to the chief Justice who overturned the decision.

Additionally, the visiting coach will also conduct coaching clinics with local coaches that work within the TCIFA's Academy and Center of Excellence Programs (CEO).

Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands  – on Sunday, November 3rd 2013, the Women’s Football League (WFL) launched ‘Speed Soccer’ for the first time in Turks & Caicos Islands. The games, held at the TCIFA Football Academy, saw five teams being introduced to the sport, and having an opportunity to play several games.

Speed Soccer is a five aside game where each team is allowed a maximum of ten players.  Games consists of two halves of ten minutes each, with a two minute interval at half time.    

Candace Hanchell, President of the WFL explained that Speed Soccer has been introduced to encourage all females regardless of their age...
