The Bahamas will strengthen its natural disaster risk management by
contributing to building resilience of its public finances against the
impacts of climate change with a $100 million contingent loan facility
from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). This loan facility will
provide the country with quick access to liquid resources to timely
finance extraordinary public expenses that could arise in the future
during emergencies caused by severe or catastrophic natural disasters...

fishermen aboard two small go-fast type boats around noon on Tuesday 11
November 2018 in the area of Little Inagua.
two Dominican boats were apprehended just off Little Inagua by RBDF
patrol craft P-129, coxswained by Petty Officer Edison Rolle, while on
routine patrol. On board were 7 Dominican fishermen, along with a

Consumers affected by a regulatory breach by the Bahamas
Telecommunications Company (BTC) can expect to receive a $100 credit
applied to their cellular mobile account on 12 December 2018.

Approximately 40 participants from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force took
part and dominated The Bahamas Law Enforcement Cooperative Credit Union
Fun, Run and Walk competition this past weekend.
The 3-mile race
commenced at The Bahamas Law Enforcement Credit Union, Collins Avenue
and took the competitors over Paradise Island and returned to the Credit
Union. Members from the Defence and Police Forces participated in this

RBDF Conducts Trafficking in Persons Seminar

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force continues to raise awareness, as
well as sensitize its personnel to illicit activities associated with
Trafficking in Persons (TIPS) through training seminars coordinated by
the RBDF Training Department at the Coral Harbour Base.

with local law enforcement agencies be strengthened in keeping with the

The recent report by a local tabloid stating that 8 of 11 Royal Bahamas
Defence Force (RBDF) vessels were broken down are false and misleading. "Reporting of unverified information to the general public as fact is blatantly irresponsible," said Commodore Bethel.
RBDF has 9 Damen-built patrol craft and 2 Bahama Class vessels that
were refitted by Damen in the Netherlands. Six out of the 9 Damen-built
vessels are operational; 3 are nonoperational, with 2 of them requiring
short term maintenance due to normal wear and tear; and the third vessel
(HMBS Dion Hanna)...
Two Men rescued off Delaporte by RBDF

Royal Bahamas Defence Force rescued two Bahamian men around 1:30 a.m.
this morning after their small craft capsized in ocean waters off
The two men were left holding onto their 12-ft
Boston Whaler, which capsized without life jackets when the incident
happened in strong winds and six to eight foot seas. RBDF patrol craft,
P-40, coxswained by Leading Seaman Anthony Rigby from the RBDF Harbour
Patrol Unit was deployed and found them after being notified by
occupants onboard the boat...
Sporting Hall of Famers Visit Defence Force Base

Five outstanding athletes from The Bahamas sporting community paid a
visit at the Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s Coral Harbour Base on
November 16, 2018.
The men and women are among 11 individuals who
were inducted into the National Hall of Fame on November 23 at
Government House. While at the military base, they were given an
overview of the daily operations of the RBDF. Their visit included a
tour of the Force’s Medical Center and HMBS Rolly Gray, one of the
Legend Class vessels...

debris eleven days after a light aircraft piloted by Captain Byron
Ferguson crashed off the northwest coast of New Providence on Thursday
8th November, 2018.
Altogether, a total of eleven days, five key
agencies (The Bahamas Air Accident Investigation Department, the Royal
Bahamas Defence and Police Forces, Bahamas Air Sea Search and Rescue

RBDF assists in Joint Rescue Effort at Sea

A joint rescue operation between the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the
United States Coast Guard resulted in the rescue of three Bahamians at
sea on Sunday past.
The three men were at sea when their vessel
ran out of fuel Sunday evening. A cruise ship spotted the boat adrift
west of Cat Island and reported it to the US Coast Guard, who in turn
informed Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos. The RBDF was informed and
deployed a patrol craft to assist the vessel...

Rights Bahamas has been made aware of a recently released viral
video of a police officer with the Royal Bahamas Police Force physically
assaulting a man that had been accused of loitering in a public place.
The video starts with shaky footage of the side-walk as the officer can
be seen communicating with an alleged tourist on vacation. As the
gentleman is given his passport, he pulls it quickly out of the
officer’s hands, and is then slapped in the face by the officer...

Royal Bahamas Defence Force joined the world in commemorating veterans
of World Wars I and II on Remembrance Day. Instituted by King George V
in 1919 in honour of these men and women, Remembrance Day is recognized

an unidentified floating container unit found in waters off Farmer's
Cay in the Exuma chain.
The estimated 20 feet x
40 feet metal container is currently located at position: Latitude:
23.57 North and Longitude 076.11 West (Farmer's Cay Cut). The residents
of Farmer's Cay had anchored the container unit and have also placed a
light on it to enhance its visibility after dark...

Search and Rescue teams from Nassau Airport Development Company, Bahamas
Airport Authority, the Royal Bahamas Police Force Fire Services, the
Royal Bahamas Defence Force Harbour Patrol Unit, the United States Coast
Guard, and BASRA were dispatched to the north shore of New Providence
in search of a light aircraft that crashed in waters off Nirvana Beach
late night on Thursday 8 November 2018.
The six seater Aztec
aircraft was later spotted by Defence Force patrol crews shortly after
10:00 p.m. just before sinking in waters half mile offshore...
British Legion and Defence Force March to Rawson Square

Defence Force says Farewell to Senior Enlisted

The Royal Bahamas Defence bid adieu to Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Lucitas
Greene on October 29, who recently retired as an active serviceman,
during a brief ceremony at HMBS Coral Harbour.
In his farewell
speech, CPO Greene thanked the organization for affording him the
opportunity to serve his country. He admonished those in attendance to
not settle for mediocrity, but rather strive to stand out in the crowd.

After completing her refit at the Maaskant Shipyard in Stellendam, The Kingdom of The Netherlands, Her Majesty's Bahamian Ship (HMBS) BAHAMAS departed The Netherlands on October 4th arriving at Coral Harbour Base on 27th October, 2018 at 9:30 am.
