Midshipmen Elcheano Edgecombe and Kenvardo Gibson of the Royal Bahamas
Defence Force are the newest addition to the Officer’s Corps after
successfully completing Naval Officer Training in England. The rigorous
seven-month training course, which is designed to prepare naval/military
cadets for the important leadership and management positions they will

RBDF discovers another body on Cay - Jan 28, 2020 - 12:40:58 PM
Another body believed to be of a Haitian national that was part of a
vessel that reportedly capsized a week ago was brought into the capital
early Tuesday morning by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.
At 5:30
am, HMBS MADEIRA brought the badly decomposed body of a male into the
Defence Force Base and handed it over to the coroner’s office for
processing. It was retrieved off Double Breasted cay by RBDF Military
divers. Also, a shipwrecked vessel was also found on the northern tip of
the cay.

RBDF: Bodies brought into the capital - Jan 26, 2020 - 9:39:41 PM
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force is continuing its search in the Ragged
Island chain after 3 male bodies believed to be Haitian nationals that
were part of a vessel that reportedly capsized several days ago were
brought into the capital Sunday morning.
Around 8:45am, HMBS
Maderia under the command of Lieutenant Alexis Brown along with the
Police Crime Scene Investigators brought the bodies into the Defence
Force Base. The bodies which wre badly decomposed were handed over to
the coroner’s office for processing.

Force (RBDF) for a great showing at The 11th Annual Sunshine Insurance
Marathon Bahamas (Race Weekend) race on Sunday January 19th, 2020.
The
RBDF had a total of 2 relay teams and 3 individual half-marathon
runners in the competition. The RBDF Road Runners 1 Team consisting of
Able Seamen Gharvis Sturrup and Michael Gibson and Marine Seamen
Wellington Ramsey and Marvin Minns finished with an overall time of
three hours, twenty-eight minutes and eighteen seconds (3:28:18)...

RBDF Apprehends Haitian Migrants - Jan 20, 2020 - 12:50:15 PM
A total of 31 Haitian migrants have been apprehended in the Ragged
Island chain by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence early this
morning.
Acting on information received, HMBS L. L. Smith under
the command of Senior Lieutenant Shawn Adderley commenced
investigations confirming suspected migrant sightings on an uninhabited
cay, north of Ragged Island. A search of the cay uncovered just over

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) continues its search for an
overdue vessel with 2 individuals onboard that was reported missing
several days ago.
The 25-ft open hull vessel departed Lowe Sound,
Andros with the 2 occupants at about 8:00 am and was due to return
later that afternoon. A joint effort by members of the RBDF, Police,
BASRA and with US Coast Guard aerial support were immediately
dispatched to begin a search for the vessel...

RBDF Officer completes Boarding Officer Course - Dec 30, 2019 - 4:50:50 PM
Acting Sub Lieutenant Jamal Taylor of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force
recently returned home after successfully completing a six-week Boarding
Officer’s Course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC)
in Charleston, South Carolina. The International Military Education
Training (IMET) sponsored course was designed to prepare junior
commissioned officers for the arduous duties associated with enforcing
United States laws and regulations and treaties at sea.
Hosted by United Stated Coast Guard (USCG) personnel, the course was
conducted at the Coast Guard’s Maritime Law Enforcement Academy from 23
October – 5 December 2019. Some of the topics covered included
authority and jurisdiction, international law, weapons law and
identification, drug identification, boarding of vessels, port waterways
and coastal security missions...

Leading Seaman Pherron Rolle of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force walked
away with the Leon L. Smith Award as the overall Marine of the Year at
the force’s Annual Christmas Carol and Awards Ceremony held on Friday
December 20, 2019 at HMBS Coral Harbour. The 15-year-veteran who is a
member of the RBDF Band, received the coveted award in honor of the
first Bahamian Commodore who headed the Defence Force from 1983 – 1997.
