Grand Bahama Island - The Bahamas is a perfect location for shooting video or film. Many commercials, films, and music videos are shot in The Bahamas.

Here is a German production that was done in Grand Bahama years back. "Nur Getraumt" is a love song done by Blümchen, a multi-platinum selling pop and dance music singer.  Blümchen releases her English albums under the name "Blossom" This video showcases the fabulous water, beach scenes and the dolphins at the UNEXSO sanctuary.

Two young Grand Bahamian girls had the opportunity to be a part of this music video, Letitia and Kristi. Watch closely for them...

Paradise Island, The Bahamas - History is made as Miss Venezuela wins two years in a row. Miss Dayana Mendoza, Miss Universe 2008 hands over the crown to new queen, 18 year old Stefania Fernandez.

Held at the Atlantis in The Bahamas, the show was being seen by an estimated one billion people around the globe.

Nassau, The Bahamas - On August 12th, The Bahamas Weekly News Team attended the Miss Universe Bahamas' Fashion Showcase held at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort on Cable Beach.  We are pleased to bring you this video coverage.

You will see 84 beautiful contestants parading down the catwalk to the music of Bahamian band, Visage.  The Bahamian designs of Raquel Turnquest-Garcia of Rachel's Boutique; Basheva Eve of La Maison de Besh of Grand Bahama;  and Sabrina Francis of Se'B Fashion Designing are showcased. Miss Universe 2008, Dayana Mendoza and Charles Sealy, who both emceed the show are wearing designs by Brynda Knowles.

After the show we spoke to the Minister of State for Finance, Hon. Zhivargo Laing. He gives short remarks on the benefits of hosting such a prestigious pageant...

Nassau, Bahamas - Tourism Today provide video coverage of the National State Gift Auction which took place at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort on August 13th. Each of hte 85 contestants provided a gift from their country to be auctioned off to benefit the Bahamas AIDS Foundation, of which $40,000 was raised that evening.

The Bahamas gift was a tea set from Cultureware depicting Junkanoo and the sea grape plant, with cowbell tea cups and a seagrape leaf saucers.

The gift from the various  countries was either Cultural specific, or had sentimental value...

Amidst the toughest economic times to date and major budgetary cuts, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism team on Grand Bahama Island, through teaming up with local entrepreneurs, have pulled off a hugely successful launch of Junkanoo Summer Festival 2009.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - last weekend, popular LOVE97FM radio personality Jay Michaels and his lovely wife, traveled to Grand Bahama for a brief R & R break from his busy schedule.

The Bahamas Weekly News Team connected with Jay first at Agave Restaurant and Bar for an amazing lunch. Then in the evening, we converged at "Tony Macaroni's Conch Experience" on Taino Beach where Tony (Zips) treated us to mouth watering conch-lobster and shrimp dishes along with copious quantities of Sands "Truly Bahamian beer." Later in the evening a jam session ensued as Jay Michael displayed his vocal talents singing a variety of classic R&B hit songs of yesteryear.

Grand Bahama Island - The Pelican Bay situated on the Port Lucaya Marina held a media event on July 8th to announce their repositioning as a destination 'meeting place', whether it be for local or offshore business meetings, smaller events or weddings. They also used the opportunity to launch their new logo and slogan which is, "Meet Happy". The event took place on the 5th floor of their new Canal House which is still under construction, but set to open in early 2010.

In this video you will hear from Magnus Alnebeck, general manager for Pelican Bay; Jim Goodrum, project manager; and Kristian Geertson, architect. Coconut Grove, Florida - View an early trailer for VOICES -- an independent documentary project that captured the stories of descendants of the original settlers of Coconut Grove (Miami) Florida. Filmed over nearly five years, this snippet from a longer feature-length film highlights the filmmaker's approach to his subject and showcases local artist JD Danner, whose haunting "Almost Home" captures the flavor of sentiments expressed by many of these children of the original builders of Coconut Grove and Miami.

“Voices” a documentary by Bahamian filmmaker Jeffrey Poitier,  nephew of the great Sidney Poitier, premiered at the AMC Theater in the beautiful CocoWalk at Coconut Grove this past Saturday the 25th of October.  The Bahamas Weekly was in attendance to cover the historical event.

Nassau, The Bahamas - Via a Tourism Today video production listen to Ministry of Tourism's Director General Vernice Walkine talk about the upcoming events when The Bahamas will host the contestants of the Miss Universe Pageant 2009. The Pageant  finale is slated for August 23rd at Atlantis.

Tickets range from $250 to $1000.  Only a certain amount of tickets will be on sale to the general public, and persons are encouraged to purchase as soon as possible.  Tickets are being sold through Atlantis and the Ministry of Tourism.

Events will take place at Atlantis, Abaco and Grand Bahama Island...

Grand Bahama Island - On location at the Freeport Football Rugby Camp, the Premier League once again makes this annual favourite summer camp possible for almost two hundred children. The camp caters to boys and girls ages six to sixteen years. Many local coaches assist with the program, which ran for five full days.

This year two coaches from the English Football Association (FA) were on hand to offer the same skills offered in the UK.

Grand Bahama Island - Saturday June 20th, 2009, The Bahamas Weekly News Team had the amazing opportunity to experience Grand Bahama Regatta 2009 out at sea.

Although there was little wind and rain came down at times, nothing can compare to being out at sea with the sloops during this serene cultural event. With Captain Don Delahay and first mate Cameron Mackey at the helm, the ride was smooth and there was ample opportunity to capture great video footage, photographs and interviews with sailors in their natural environment on the water.

With copious quantities of Sands Beer on board, we traversed the calm seas along side " The Island Gal" skippered by Marty Bullard and sponsored by Grand Bahama Island based, Bahamian Brewery & Beverage Co., the creators of " Sands Beer."

Nassau, The Bahamas - Hurricane Season begins June 1st and The Bahamas Weekly News Team is pleased to announce this year's 2009 hurricane forecast. The Team was able to stop in to the 13th annual Bahamas Weather Conference in April thanks to SkyBahamas.  This year's weather conference which is attended by officials from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), the National Hurricane Center (NHC), members of emergency management organizations, academia and television news weathermen and women from all over the world, was  held at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort in New Providence.

In this video you will hear from  famed hurricane expert, Meteorologist, Dr. William Gray from Colorado State University who will provide this year's forecast; Max Mayfield, who moderated and planned the conference agenda and is former director of the National Hurricane Center;  and well-known TV personality Steve Lyons, Tropical Weather Expert, The Weather Channel...

Grand Bahama Island -  Get a glimpse into Spring Break in Freeport, Grand Bahama on a wild night in March with more than 2000 students on Island via such companies as Xtreme Trips, Student City, and Spring Break Celebrity Entertainment with Inertia Tours.

The travel company spokespersons seen in this video  explain why they chose The Bahamas for their student travel destination.  After a hiatus from hurricanes of 2004, and reflecting back on a time when 2000 students was nothing compared to the numbers that used to grace the island, it is good to have the revenue back on Grand Bahama even for a short time out of the year.

In this video you will hear from Karen Ferguson of Port Lucaya Marketplace who explains how valuable Spring Break students are to the local economy and how her company prepared to receive the student travelers.

Amidst a busy schedule, Bahamian snowboarder, Korath Wright, who will compete in the February 2010 Winter Olympics took some time back in his home country to meet with the media, share his story, and seek sponsorship to cover his training costs up to the Winter Olympics in Vancouver Canada.

Korath is a Bahamian first! He is the first Bahamian to compete in a Winter Olympics, and definitely all eyes will be on him when he hits the halfpipe (his event) in hopes of a Gold medal for The Bahamas.

Bahamas Builds New York Event Around Duke Ellington Day - May 20, 2009 - 5:22:55 PM

NEW YORK, NY– The Islands Of The Bahamas teamed up with the city of New York recently to pay tribute to one of the Bahamas’ famous visiting musicians.

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg declared April 29 Duke Ellington Day in honor of the  110th anniversary of the jazz legend’s birth.  To commemorate his life, The Islands Of The Bahamas sponsored a special run of the last surviving 1939 New York City ‘A’ Train, made famous by Duke Ellington’s signature tune Take the A Train. The train was outfitted with the Bahamas’ logo and signage, and was dubbed “The Bahamas Express” for the day’s special events.
