Purpose of the blessing

Gen.12: 2.  And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

This word blessing in the Hebrew is: Berakah, ber-aw-kaw'; which has several meanings such as (1) benediction; (2) prosperity, (3) liberal, (4) pool, (5) present.

The erroneous preconceived ideas of the BLESSING can and has caused many within the household of faith / the church to shipwreck their faith and adhere to religious myths and clichés that sounds good, but lacks true Godly substance.

In today’s church world the blessing has been reduced primarily to materialism (vehicles, houses, air planes, money, etc;). Notwithstanding that these material things and the likes thereof are simply byproducts of the blessing.

Despite all of the prosperity teachings and other materials concerning prosperity that’s circulating throughout the church today; there’s still a vast amount of poverty and lack among the majority of saints.  It’s fair to say that this consistent level of poverty and lack is due to greed, selfishness and blatant disobedient to God’s word by those who have gain access to level of financial prosperity / blessing.

The distorted view of the BLESSING and PROSPERITY has given birth to the twisted prosperity gospel that’s become the central message of today’s church; and it primarily / financially benefits the religious leaders.

Whenever I hear religious leaders speaking of God’s blessings upon their lives, but yet their followers are consistently walking in / living a life of poverty and lack; then I know that such leaders have either one or two problems. (1) They don’t know and understand the purpose of God’s blessing, (2) They’re consumed by the spirit of greed and selfishness.

Here’s the purpose of the blessing “and thou shalt be a blessing”

As God begins to show himself strong on behalf of his people in the realm of finances many of these persons have allowed the finances and other blessings to get the better part of them. This is where the saying comes into play “It’s not bad to have money, but it’s bad when money have you; OR as, 1Tim.6:10, says “For the love of money is the root of all evil:”

The key to walking in and being the recipient of God’s blessing is that of being obedient to His word.   There are two facets of being blessed or receiving a blessing; one is of God and the other is orchestrated by Satan.
(1)   KJV: Prov.10: 22.  The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
This facet of the blessing is surrounded with the joy that’s unspeakable and filled with God’s glory and is gladly extended / shared with others, (with wisdom as the Holy Spirit leads).

(2)   NLT: Ps.62: 10.  Don't try to get rich by extortion or robbery. And if your wealth increases, don't make it the center of your life.
This facet of the blessing is methodically laid out by Satan of which many within and outside the church are chasing after and upon its gain, there is great sorrows attached one way or another.

God’s purpose of the blessing is not for one to consume it upon his / her own lust.  In the process of receiving the blessing God will make the recipient’s name great. Not for the recipient’s name sake; but for His (God’s) name sake.
As man chases Satan’s facet of the blessing one of the very first things that happen, is that the name of the man / woman becomes the center of attention.  The media is normally involved or some other self initiated means of making the public aware of such a person’s new financial position.

The perquisite for God’s blessings is clearly laid out for us:
Deut.28: 1.  And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
: 2. And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
: 3. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
: 4. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
: 5. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.
: 6. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
: 7. The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.
: 8. The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

The reverse of the blessing is the curse, which is also clearly laid out for us:
Deut.28: 15. But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
: 16. Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
: 17.  Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.
: 18.  Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
: 19. Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
: 20.  The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.
: 21.  The LORD shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest to possess it.

Follow the path of the blessing.
