DNA: The uneasiness of doing business in The Bahamas -
Oct 27, 2019 - 5:00:50 PM
On the campaign trail, the Free National Movement (FNM) campaigned on a
number of issues that were important to the Bahamian people and the
private sector. They created the impression that they cared about a fair
taxation system, meritocracy, fighting corruption and conflicts of
interest, freedom of information and improving the ease of doing
business.
The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) like many
Bahamians was aware that the FNM was not truly committed to the promises
made...

Oct 23, 2019 - 9:45:38 AM
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement
regarding the announcement of the new medical school to be built in
Grand Bahama:
“Our Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis is leading
The Bahamas’ recovery and reconstruction, with decisive action and a
clear focus on making progress in both Abaco and Grand Bahama. The
historic disaster that dealt a blow to our nation will take time to
heal, but it has not taken our government off course from its objective
to create more jobs and opportunity for all Bahamians...

DNA on resignation of Reece Chipman -
Oct 11, 2019 - 1:25:34 PM
The recent resignation of Reece Chipman from the Free National Movement
(FNM) came as no surprise to the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) and
many Bahamians.
The Member of Parliament for Centreville who was
responsible for unseating the former leader of the Progressive Liberal
Party (PLP) and former Prime Minister Perry Christie had been frustrated
with a government that lacks integrity, ethics and transparency...

Philip Davis remarks at monthly press conference -
Oct 8, 2019 - 2:46:53 PM
Yesterday (Monday, 7 Oct 2019), my colleagues Glenys Hanna Martin,
Picewell Forbes MPs, Senator Clay Sweeting and I travelled to Abaco in
response to a call from residents in the Cays. We visited Man-O-War Cay
and Hope Town in Elbow Cay.
I first want to say that before going
to the Cays, we rode around Marsh Harbour. The stench of death is ever
present. There was a report that a trailer of bodies was overlooked and
only within the last week discovered...

FNM: Same PLP, same neglect of responsibility -
Oct 8, 2019 - 2:25:48 PM
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement
regarding the PLP’s criticism of the Prime Minister’s consideration of
curfew in light of security concerns in the aftermath of Hurricane
Dorian:
“One side shows leadership, the other side keeps playing
partisan games. Most Bahamians realize that Prime Minister Dr. Hubert
Minnis is taking action to mitigate the issues we are facing in the
aftermath of Hurricane Dorian...

DNA: Government’s actions worsen immigration fiasco -
Oct 1, 2019 - 2:30:24 PM
The government seems to be acting on the cogent messages and questions
within the recent press release issued by the Democratic National
Alliance (DNA) entitled Government must address immigration quandary.
This is apparent from the news headlines on the repatriation of
undocumented shelter migrants, work permit holders without employment
and enforcement of our immigration laws. Regrettably, the damage may
have already been done due to initial actions, inactions and negligence...

FNM: PLP should participate before disparaging -
Sep 30, 2019 - 4:30:50 PM
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement
regarding the PLP’s criticism of the Government over the hurricane
relief effort:
“There is a time for politics and then there are
times for leadership. Partisan politicians – more interested in their
political fortunes – can’t tell the difference, while true leaders do.
Sadly, the PLP continues to reveal themselves to be the former, not the
latter...

Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party on Hurricane Relief Concerns -
Sep 29, 2019 - 6:45:18 PM
The Prime Minister can fly off to New York, party with the rich and
famous, speak to the world audience and the Secretary General of the
United Nations, but is unable to speak to the Leader of the Opposition
in The Bahamas. Since he is intent on ignoring the PLP and the Leader of
the Opposition, we make public the following national issues:
The
people of Moore’s Island feel abandoned by the FNM government. They
have no running water. They complain of lack of a government presence
since the storm.
Yesterday the water system in Sandy Point, Abaco failed because the generator in the well field malfunctioned...

DNA Response on the establishment of new Ministry -
Sep 22, 2019 - 7:00:03 PM
The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) listened carefully to the Prime
Minister's press conference earlier today for much anticipated updates
on a comprehensive plan following Hurricane Dorian. We will address
various aspects of the statements made by the Prime Minister in multiple
releases. However, we are concerned about the proposed expansion of
government and increased layer of bureaucracy created by the
establishment of a new Ministry and the appointment of a new State
Minister...

Leader of Opposition on Overview of post Hurricane activities -
Sep 10, 2019 - 1:19:33 PM
To date I have led a delegation to Moores Island, Treasure Cay, Grand
Bahama and just yesterday we landed in Marsh Harbour and left from Sandy
Point and had the opportunity to see much of the devastation wrought on
the super structure, infrastructure and most importantly, the impact it
had on the lives of thousands of Bahamians.
My delegation
comprised Deputy Leader Chester Cooper, MP for Englerston Glenys Hanna
Martin, Senators Darville and Coleby-Davis along with party officers.
On
each trip we carried a limited but a variety of supplies including
water, generators and canned and dry food products subject to the
capacity of the aircraft.

DNA: Government must now answer on corruption -
Aug 28, 2019 - 3:40:58 PM
The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) has reviewed the recent
ruling by the Court of Appeal in the Frank Smith matter. According to
court documents, the appellate court dismissed the argument made by the
prosecution that Chief Magistrate Joyanne Ferguson-Pratt erred in her
ruling that Ms. Barbara Hanna was not a reliable witness and therefore,
there was no case to answer. While the Court of Appeal acknowledged that
the Chief Magistrate made some procedural missteps, they concluded that
there was an 'abundance of examples of doubtful testimony' from Ms.
Hanna...

Davis in response to government's 'frank' meeting with union leader -
Aug 26, 2019 - 11:00:25 PM
The so called 'frank' meeting between the government and labour unions
on the 24th August achieved nothing and exposed the public to what the
PLP had asserted and predicted over two budget cycles: the government's
financial administration was wanting and the Finance Minister did not
and still does not know what he was doing.
The PLP decried the
$60 million lump sum payment to one vendor; the unsolicited tax breaks
to companies with turnovers in excess of $50 million...

survey results recently released by the Department of Statistics. The

DNA Chairman: DNA on Compass Point Saga -
Aug 8, 2019 - 12:31:31 PM
The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) is deeply concerned by the recent
saga involving the owner of Compass Point Resort and the Government of
The Bahamas.
It was disappointing to see a foreign investor
lambast a sitting administration while using the employment of Bahamian
workers as a bargaining tool. Simply put, it is totally unacceptable for
any investor to use Bahamians as pawns to force the government to meet
his demands...
