NASSAU, The Bahamas - Honourable Senators both Government and Opposition
including Attorney General and Leader of Government Business in the
Senate the Hon. Allyson Maynard, and Leader of Opposition Business the
Hon. Carl Bethel, Members of Parliament, and Cabinet Ministers led by
Acting Prime Minister the Hon. Philip Davis, and Opposition Leader the
Hon. Hubert Minnis, attended the state-recognized funeral of former
Senator Edwin Brown at Bethel Baptist Church, Friday, February 5, 2016.
The Hon. Carl Bethel led Opposition Senate Members in a march from the
Senate to the church with the procession and the former member's body.

State-Recognized Funeral announced for Edwin 'Wykee' Brown -

Nassau, Bahamas - The Cabinet Office announced today that a
State-Recognized Funeral will be held for Edwin “Wykee” Brown, MBE,
J.P., former Senator, on Friday, 5th February, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at
Bethel Baptist Church, Meeting Street.
Further, the body will
lie-in-state in the foyer of the Senate, Parliament Square, from 9:00am
on Thursday 4th February until the body departs for the church on
Friday.
Viewing for the general public will be from 12:00 noon - 5:00pm on Thursday 4th February, 2016...

Grand Bahama Businessman, Edgar J. Outten Jr. Laid to Rest -

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – One of the most successful black Bahamian
businessmen and a key figure in the development of Grand Bahama Island,
Edgar J. Outten Jr. was laid to rest this past Saturday.
The celebration marking the life of the late Mr. Outten was held at the
Community at Heart Tabernacle Church of God of Prophecy on Coral Road,
Freeport.
Prime Minister the Right Hon. Perry Gladstone Christie headed a list of
senior Government officials attending the service and paying his
respects to the family...

As president of The Bahamas Olympic Committee, I extend heartfelt
condolences to the family of the late Devince Smith of The Bahamas
Volleyball Federation whose tragic death has saddened the sporting
community in The Bahamas.
Devince
gave a lot to sports in The Bahamas, particularly in the sport of
Volleyball, where he worked hard to spread the sport to the Family
Islands and was not only a national coach of the junior and senior men’s
teams, but also one of the few Olympic Level Coaches available in the
country.

State-Recognized Funeral will be held for the Late Reverend Hervis L. Bain, Jr. MBE,
J.P., on Friday, 6th November, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s
Native Baptist Cathedral, Meeting Street.
Further, the body will lie-in-repose on
Wednesday 4th November, at St. John’s Native Baptist Cathedral from 10:00am

The Kiwanis body mourns the passing of a great Bahamian hero and an
esteemed contributor to the work on Kiwanis not only in the Bahamas, but
in the Caribbean and Eastern Canada in the persons of Dr. Hervis Bain.
Dr. Bain who is also the designer of the country’s national coat of arms passed away this past Sunday. He was 73-years old...

Min. Fred Mitchell on the passing of Ken Perigord -

I learned this evening with great sadness of the
death of my very good friend and benefactor Kenneth Perigord. Words
cannot express the sorrow that I feel over his passing.
He
was simply a good person. He helped whenever he could. He came to the
rescue always. He was selfless and cared deeply about The Bahamas, his
children, his friends and the civic life of The Bahamas. I admired his
pioneering spirit in business and his contribution to The Bahamas
Petroleum Dealers Association.
Every year at
Christmas he contributed a Christmas tree from his Christmas Tree farm
and business to the Fox Hill...

Coral Harbour Base 27 Sept. (RBDF) – Our hearts are heavy
as we mourn our loss of young Marine Seaman Anfernee Brett Neely earlier today.
Marine Seaman Neely succumbed to injuries he sustained during a boating
accident in Nassau Harbour while on duty on Thursday 17 September 2015.
Neely enlisted in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force as a
member of New Entry 52 on the 10th January 2015. His Entry is largest entry to
date to join the Defence Force with a total of 108 Marines undergoing recruit
training at the same time...

I am deeply saddened that
the peaceful and family oriented community of Holmes Rock had been disturbed by
the brutal acts of an uncaring, cold and malicious individual who had no value
of life or living.
We have lost two
individuals whose lives were committed to their community and to their country.
Barry was among the cadre of young Bahamians who embraced opportunity. His

Perry G. Christie, on Saturday described the late Sir Albert Miller as a
"great" man and an "authentically great Bahamian."

military service was held at The Pro-Cathedral of Christ the King in

I recently attended funerals of two very
close colleagues - Alfred Bismark Coakley MBE and Sir Albert Joel
Miller - and as I reflected on my dearly departed brothers and
colleagues, the name of another of our brother and friend, Stanley
Alexander Wilson Jr. who died on Oct 5th1990 at a young age of 48,
constantly came to mind.
It was Stanley Wilson who Sir Lynden Pindling had seconded to Grand
Bahama to review and offer advisement to his government on the
transformation of Freeport. It was Stanley Wilson who convinced Edward
St. George and Jack Haywood to sell at market value a number of
Companies that were owned by the Grand Bahamas Port Authority. Freeport
