Freeport, Bahamas - The following are remarks made by President of the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce at the Grand Bahama Business Outlook on February 25th.

So what is the vision for Grand Bahama?  I am advised that such a vision is being finalized and I hope that it will be shared with us in due course, but I have to confess I am curious as to what it will contain and if it will reflect consultation with the indigenous stakeholders to ensure it relevance and credibility.  Forming a vision for an island like ours is not an easy task considering the politics and other extenuating circumstances, but is a worthwhile endeavor to try to bring some focus to our attempts to attract investment which should be lined up with our educational requirements to ensure our citizens benefit...

Persons in attendance enjoyed a performance by Bahamian recording artist, Terneille 'TaDa' Burrows and danced to the Matrix Band.

Mr. K. Peter Turnquest of Telcom Trading & Consulting Ltd., and
Chairman of the Board of SkyBahamas was elected the G.B. Chamber's new president.

The newly elected executive board is as follows John Swain as 1st Vice President; Esmond Weeks as 2nd Vice President; Chatto Outten as Treasurer; and Leigh Lightbourne-Termath as Secretary...

50 persons in all were nominated this year in six categories: 1) Outstanding Business Person of the Year; 2) Developing Entrepreneur of the Year; 3) Company of the Year; 4) Philanthropic Business Person of the Year; 5) Business Student of the Year; and 6) Lifetime Achievement.

Hank Ferguson, Director of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce’s recently established Small and Medium Enterprises Support Unit recently represented that non-profit organization at the 93rd Board of Directors Meeting & Joint Regional Chambers and Manufacturers Meeting of the Caribbean Association of Industry and Commerce (CAIC) in St. Kitts and Nevis from February 5th - 8th, 2009.

Representatives from Chambers from throughout the English speaking Caribbean, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe and St. Maarten were in attendance. The meeting focused on issues related to the Global Financial Crisis and the impact on the Caribbean region...

The Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce held its annual general meeting and election of officers & directors on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Westin At Our Lucaya Resort.  The slate of officers, as presented by the Nomination Committee were elected unopposed by the membership.  Presiding over the election was outgoing treasurer K. Peter Turnquest.

The board of directors for the 2008 – 2009 administrative year are Gregory Moss, President, Greg Langstaff, 1st vice president, Linda Turnquest, 2nd vice president, John Swain, treasurer, Rochelle Knowles, secretary, 1st year directors Jenny Barr, Charles Pratt, Minna Outten-Winters, Ta’Shar Cuccurrullo, Philip Franks, Cleveland Duncombe and returning to serve the second year of a two year term are directors Joyann McIntosh, Denise Adderley, Leigh Termath and Esmond Weekes. Freeport, Bahamas -  The Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce  held their Business Excellence Recognition Awards Ceremony on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Regency Theatre followed by Awards Presentations and it was deemed a successfull first year for this new annual event.

Sir Albert Miller and Harold "Sonny" Waugh were both Lifetime Achievement awardees.

Cleveland Duncombe took Businessperson of the Year award, while Kelly's and Regional Air took Business of the Year.
