BAIC Launches Agricultural Land Lease Program in Spring City & Norman’s Castle, Abaco - Apr 2, 2015 - 10:33:18 PM

The Hon. Dion D. Smith, Executive Chairman of the Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation (BAIC) formally launched the Abaco Agricultural Program for the Spring City and Norman’s Castle areas at a ground breaking ceremony held on Friday, March 27th 2015 in Spring City, Abaco.

In keeping with the government’s pursuit to develop the agricultural sector and forge ahead with decreasing our billion-dollar food import bill, BAIC is moving throughout the Family Islands to ensure that Bahamians are afforded the opportunity to help reduce this bill.

The Corporation has agricultural land in the Spring City and Norman’s Castle settlements that will be available for lease to Bahamians...

Police in Guana Cay, Abaco arresting illegal immigrants.

Reports are that on Thursday 26th March 2015, shortly after 5:00am, Officers of the Guana Cay Police Station, acting on information proceeded to an abandoned structure on Guana Cay where they arrested three adult male Haitian Nationals ages ranging between 20 years to 35 years. They were taken to the Guana Cay Police Station and later handed over to Immigration Authorities for processing...

GEORGIA, USA - The Ms. KSU 2015 Pageant was put on by the KSU's (Kennesaw State University in Georgia) International Student Association (ISA). Eighteen girls participated and were from The Bahamas, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, England, Ethopia, Finland, Germany, Guyana, Haiti, Italy, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Phillipines, Spain, Sweden,Turkey, and USA.  Representing The Bahamas was 20 year old, Blair Johnson of Green Turtle Cay, Abaco. Blair was a former Miss Teen Bahamas constant.

"It was an amazing evening, and I made so many new friends and cannot say enough good things about ISA," said Blair Johnson from The Bahamas who is studying exercise science.

Abaco police arrest 61 illegal immigrants - Mar 21, 2015 - 2:16:27 PM

Law Enforcement Officers arrest (61) illegal Immigrants in the Snake Cay area, Abaco.

Reports are that on Saturday 21st March 2015 shortly after 2:00am, a team of Officers headed by Immigration Department, the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force arrested (61) illegal Immigrants, (11) adult females, (45) adult males, (3) juvenile females and (2) children.

Further inquiries were conducted and a 52 year old male of the Mudd, Abaco was arrested for assisting in illegal landing.

US citizen arrested for stolen boat in Abaco - Mar 12, 2015 - 11:34:41 AM

ABACO, The Bahamas - An adult male and female along with juvenile male from Florida, USA, are in custody after they were arrested for possession of a stolen vessel on Wednesday 11th March 2015.

According to reports, around 11:00am, police in Eleuthera acting on intelligence went to a marina located in Spanish Wells, where they arrested the three suspects onboard a 25 - foot boat. The vessel was reported stolen form Marsh Harbour, Abaco on Tuesday 10th March 2015.

Marsh Harbour, Abaco -  The employees of CIBC Canada and CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank were on a mission early this year to lift up the needy people of Abaco with a shipment of donated goods that arrived on the island recently.

According to Frank and Phyllis McVicker, the project was initiated and spearheaded by their daughter, Sue Cronacher, who works at one of CIBC’s Ontario branches. Mr. McVicker explained that once the bank’s customers observed the donations being brought in at the bank, they excitedly joined the effort with donations of their own...

The Abacos, Bahamas - Police in Abaco are investigating the death of an American male on board a cruise ship.

Reports are that on Sunday 1st March 2015, shortly after 7:00am, police received information that a 56 year old American male of Cleveland U.S.A, reportedly died while on board the cruise ship. The matter was later reported to Bahamian authorities at Castaway Cay, Abaco.

Stabbing Incident and Building Fire in Abaco - Feb 28, 2015 - 11:29:16 AM


The Abacos, Bahamas - Police in Abaco are investigating a stabbing incident that has left a 34 year old male of Moores Island with injuries.

Reports are that on Saturday 28th February 2015 shortly before 1:00am, Police received a report that a male while at a local liquor store in Moores Island was involved in an altercation with another male when he was stabbed about the body. His injuries are said to be listed as serious. Police have in their custody a 39 year old male of Moores Island who is assisting police with their investigation into this matter.

Police in Abaco are investigating an alleged drowning that occurred on CastawayCay in the Abaco’s on Thursday 26th February 2015.

Reports are that officers of the Sandy Point Police Station, Abaco, were notified about the incident shortly after 4:00pm. The decease is a 38 year old American male visitor who was a passenger on board a cruise ship was alleged to have drown while swimming in waters on Castaway Cay...

ABACO, The Bahamas - Police on Abaco nab a man in possession of house breaking implements and recovered thousands of dollars worth of stolen electronics.

According to reports sometime between December 2014 and February 2015 a primary school in Central Abaco was broken into on three occasion and property was stolen. As a result an intense investigation was initiated, which led to the arrest of a 19 year old male resident of Dundas Town, Abaco.

High Banks Volunteer Fire Service is located at Bahama Palm Shores, South Abaco. This all volunteer service was established in 2008 to provide a much needed fire service for BPS and nearby communities.

June of 2014 was a very active time for bush fires around BPS and Casuarina Point. Fires burned continuously for two weeks and we were kept very busy to say the least...

The quaint settlement of Hope Town was inundated with colourful runners and walkers on a fittingly beautiful Sunday morning. On December 28th, one-hundred and eleven adults and kids tossed colour into the air and ran a 5km road race, starting and finishing at Firefly Sunset Resort.


The morning started off early with Albury's Ferry providing a direct ferry from Marsh Harbour to Firefly. Registrations continued last minute, as those who were in town for the holidays signed up to participate. Police in Abaco are searching for two men who robbed a residence in Treasure Cay, Abaco.

Reports are that on Thursday 30th October 2014 shortly after 10:00pm, police received information that two men who were both described as wearing mask, dark clothing and were both armed with weapons, entered a home in the Treasure Cay, Abaco area, held the owners at bay and robbed them of cash and a truck.Officers quickly responded and later recovered the truck at the Treasure Cay Ferry Dock a short time later.

ABACO, Bahamas - On Tuesday 21st October 2014, 32 year old Jermaine Dumercy of the Mudd, Abaco, appeared before Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt at the Magistrate Court, Marsh Harbour, Abaco on Possession of Firearm charge. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to (2) years at Her Majesty’s Prison in New Providence. This is in connection to an incident that was reported to police on the 19th August, 2013.
